Hey yall - been dealing with some personal burnout lately and have hit a point where I really need to address it. What do you guys do when you feel burnout from work or personal circumstances? What helps and what doesn’t? Does partaking in the hobby help you address burnout? Would be helpful to hear some of your thoughts. Thanks

Would need a lot more information to really give a good answer, but I understand if you don't want to post details here

For me I need to look below the surface a bit. I very rarely if ever just have "burnout". There is almost always something in particular bothering me or causing me to be depressed.

Some are small easily rectified things, and some require larger life changes and commitments to self improvement.

Case in point, the whole reason I am in this hobby is because after my divorce I was so happy being alone that I didn't bother working on myself and getting back out into the dating world.

I had packed on a considerable amount of weight during my marriage. I dedicated myself to just being there for my kids when I had them and enjoying the free time when I didn't.

Then one day I realized my kids will be leaving soon to go to school and I will still be fat and lonely

I decided to start excersizing and changing my diet. I also started seeing escorts at that point which gave me confidence and a reason to work even harder.

I've just made my first milestone which was to lose 50 lbs and now I am on to goal #2 which is to lose another 20 but this time add some muscle to the mix.

At the same time I have been on dating apps and started going on dates with women. Haven't found anyone yet but it's fun being in the mix while also seeing these wonderful women we all love.

So you see, I was facing "burnout" (unsatisfied, depressed) made a major change in my life and now I am feeling better every day.

As to whether the hobby can ultimately help or hinder, I'll let you know when I see if I can actually let go when I meet the right woman.

From a work perspective, yes, see high-end escort, eat at bar of top-notch restaurant at a time when they aren’t too busy and order a delicious meal, and watch the Chappelle classic on the supposed freedom from working, including the part “you’ll get no pussy”. It is a very competitive world and most if not all benefits go to the few. Decide you are tired, not burned out, and you have to work through it, or you will end up like Stinky.

From a personal family burnout perspective, you have to decide when to say when and give yourself some space. I really feel bad for the sandwich generation. They have caregiver fatigue from taking care of parents while being expected to helicopter parent their own kids. I think they should sometimes ask themselves if that is really what any of them want, or if some space is better for everyone.

I dealt with professional burnout in two ways. One I quit the job that I hated, even though it payed extremely well, for a job that I don't hate. Two I started doing things that bring me peace and serenity, which for me is spending as much time in the wilderness of Northern Ontario as I am able to mainly hunting and fishing. Yeah it sucks that I'm not making nearly as much money but I'm in an infinitely better place in spite of it 1000012536.jpg

As an 80 year-old semi-retiree, whose work really doesn't take more than an hour a day, I would wake up each morning wondering how I was gonna keep myself busy and entertained during the day.

Apart from logging on to terb several times a day, watching old and new TV series, and general internet surfing, my days were rather empty.

Also I was becoming too sedentary.

So I decided to take up "mall walking" about 8 weeks ago. Fortunately there is a large shopping centre close to me, with covered parking, so it's my garage to it's garage no matter what the weather.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy smart watch on Amazon, that counts my steps and can check my heart rate.

I am now up to 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, 5 or 6 days a week, am enjoying a renewed sense of energy, and am amongst people instead of being home alone.

There's a lot to be said for exercising, especially around other people, as a remedy for emptiness in your life, or other negative issues.

I've even found it's reduced my dependence on hobbying as something to look forward to...

my suggestion.…you need to get out of the cycle you are in. everything you do whether the hobby or massage or relaxing at a spa only provides temporary relief.

Funny enough, my 'relaxation' of dealing with burnout and me time is massages, MPs, escorts, etc.

It's not the healthiest outlet and I am working on this as well, but it is what I do currently. hence terb. I have 7 years sober from any substances, I can understand and identify addictive behaviors and needing something outside yourself to calm yourself down.

It's not the answer, it's a temporary solution. one day at a time is how I do it

I downsized my job and responsibilities. Stopped stressing over other people's problems. Refund enjoyment in hobbies. Took my vacations and disconnected.

I also realized everyone is replaceable. You are not "family" in the corporate world. Deadlines are artificial constructs. They will never be satisfied with productivity levels.

If its family be honest, forthright, and shut down shit and drama. Kids time for a real lesson in growing up. Get past emotional and and get to indifferent.

And now my recent bloodtests are perfect. Got back to home-cooked meals, low stress life.
