My father.

I was always closer to my mother and she predeceased my father by 5 years. That was bad enough.

But when my father died, I really crashed in so many ways. He was born in the depression and was made of steel. He worked his ass off in a hell hole to support his family and he never bitched about it once. He was the kind of guy if he dropped an anvil on his foot, he'd walk a mile out into the forrest before he screamed. He was the dad on our street that would cram his kids and four other kids on the street into a piece of shit Ford and take us all to the Ex. He used to do all kinds of work around the house, groceries, cooking meals, laundry, you name it. It was only as I got older that I realized that he knew the score. Something I didn't think he knew when I was a smart-ass in school living under his roof. Died way before his time just to cap it off.

When it comes to celebrities.

As a Yankee fan I was listening to an expo broadcast when Dave Van Horne stopped the broadcast to announce that my favourite player Yankee catcher Thurman Munson had died in a plane crash. Can still remember that like yesterday. Can picture exactly where I was. The celebration of his life at the stadium the next game was both spectacular and crushingly emotional.

Gregg Moore. I was watching the race that he died in. When he crashed I was literally praying that somehow he would be okay. I was emotionally spent for a while afterwards. Never watched another race after that.

Bobby Kennedy. I respected him so much and just could not believe that someone would want to kill him. The naivety of youth I guess.

All my animals that I lost have hurt and left an indelible mark on my soul. You feel as if you're supposed to be able to protect them from everything. Sadly you cannot. I still have a hard time driving past the vet clinic where the last one passed. Part of me feels like if I wheel in I can just pick him up and drive him home. On the way there on that fateful day I kept assuring him beside me in the car that everything was going to be okay. That we were going to be home in a hour. He never made it. Watching the light go out in his eyes was devastating. Still wonder to this day what i could have done....

In no particular order, Queen Elizabeth. Taken from us far too soon.

Chris Cornell for sure and the suicide of Brad Delp, singer from Boston. Three motorcycle racers.... Mike Hailwood, Cal Rayborn and the tragic end of Danny "Magoo" Chandler.

the geeky kid in my grade 10 art class who was always super quiet and never really hung out with anyone. No one paid her much attention until she stepped out in front of a bus on the road in front of the school.

I took Sharon Jones' death pretty hard. I'm a huge fan and had the pleasure of seeing her play a couple times.

I was absolutely devastated by Malika Fantasy's passing. I was a regular client for a couple years. We stopped seeing each other but stayed on good terms. I knew she had been dealing with challenges in her life but her death was still a gut punch.

Couldn't agree more with you. My dad passed away in Dec 2020. It hit me way harder than I would have imagined. It still is.

I knew three kids which took their own lives before I graduated high school. It wasn't that large of a town I lived in.
The first guy was in grade eight. I use to walk to school and would join up with him the odd time. I remember once just after Christmas a couple of us were talking about the gifts we had got. This guy said he got a large bottle of soda and a large bag of chips for Christmas. I think that was the first time I realized not everybody has it good. About six months later he hung himself.
