I don't see how a decline in opium production is seen as progress.

I can see some may have a problem if the buyers sell the opium as heroin rathter than morphine.

Now guess what? How accurate do you think the Taliban were at convicting the right people?

A child being raped in the ass is totally disgusting. A kid losing a hand or limb after being wrongly accused is beyond disgusting.

There are countless cases of Taliban rules being used politically - even at the neighbourhood level - just to settle scores.

Yet not to the levels as indicated in the link I gave you before the Taliban sought to raise prices on their bumper crop and try to seek World approval. The fact that the Taliban and Bin Laden desperately need this revenue source to battle Nato tells me that they are very willing to scrap their believes to kill Westerners and fellow Muslims.

...and who is benefiting from this ... are you saying it is Nato? Still barking up the wrong tree ... BTW I was looking at different numbers from another source and mine said estimate ... so since this is quoting a UN survey I'll take your number as correct.

What I object to here in your post is that the villain in this story of increased poppy production is not NATO or it's allies ... it's the Taliban and Bin Laden who need this stuff to support their war effort ... which is certainly not the point you are trying to make.
