I am an outsider as well meaning I am not of south Asian descent. I do however read and now have friends from both side of their borders.
I know "religion' is not exactly valued around here on Terb, but holy crap, cultural events are fucking important to humans, and are a major part of what makes life worth living.
Just think about Christmas movies, even the secular, sappy ones. Everything is about gathering. Trust me, people want to gather together. They are craving interaction, normal human interaction with their extended families and friends.
Throwing around the term 'covididiot' is ridiculous, unless you live your life online in your basement.
How much longer do you think it's possible for the majority of people to stay separate from their loved ones?

Throwing around the term "covididiots" may be offensive to some people but you aren't looking at the big picture.
Yes, people are tired of isolating,not seeing family and friends. But your family and friends are also tired of being out of work, losing their jobs or not knowing if they will have a job in the future.
These large gatherings go against everything we know about Covid. Nothing but super spreading events. If that's the life you and your friends want move to the USA where they don't give a fuck.
I think human life is more fucking important to humans than any kind of cultural event.
There will be another cultural event/holiday but not another life to live. Grow the fuck up!.

Life has to be WORTH living and gatherings (like 'em or not) are not some odd unusual new fangled event.---They are as human as breathing, as normal as falling in Iove, as common as smiles and laughs. They simply are 'LIFE'.
Note, nowhere did I say 'Go have a mass gathering'. I understand why they happen, and perhaps believe people should be cut a little slack.
Not in the middle of a pandemic, they shouldn't.
Not being able to party is not inhumane. Have some members of society really reached this point? Are we that spoiled?
What you call 'party' I call socialize.
Socializing is exactly what being a society is all about.
Are we not, (in the west) lambasted for our concern about work, and earning money to our own health detriment? Not spending time with family and friends? We don't stop and smell the flowers often enough?
Performing our work, no matter how essential it is, and then Sitting a home watching TV, or browsing on line is hardly living

This pandemic is about everyone taking care of your neighbour, friends, family and coworkers.
Tune yourself into reality.
Lol. Being in a society means working together to make things better in both good times and bad times. That by working collectively the outcomes can be better.
The socialize aspect is a benefit AFTER responsibilities are done. To demand the rewards first is to demand dessert before you eat your vegetables.

I know it's confusing but not all Brown people are the same. Diwali is not typically celebrated by people who attend mosques.
You are right. Sitting at home is boring, However, I am sure most of you are amongst the younger generation unlike me being 79 years old. Can't you idiots understand that this pandemic is a temporary thing and you all will be back to a normal life style next year. So the sooner you abide by the restrictions, the sooner you all will be living the social life you want. Me? I just want another 5 or so years. Wake up.
We are 5 or 6 months from a vaccine being available.......that is how long we have to follow the social distancing guidelines. Why is that so difficult if it can save 1000's of lives and prevent the medical system from being totally overwhelmed?
I'm in my late 50s. I've worked every day of the pandemic. You know, taking care of others?
Remind me again about MY responsibilities.
I hope you guys practice what you preach so boldly and are not visiting Escorts and Massage girls.

I'm just being a realist. We're going to have to accept COVID will be around for a while. We can't stop living completely.
That being said, all of your accusations regarding my behaviour are unfounded (well I did break down ONCE and have a VIP dance experience at MI during this time). I've basically been working and staying home as much as humanly possible.
All I've been getting at, is that I UNDERSTAND the fundamental need to get together and celebrate milestones. Christmas is going to be very tough for thousands of people.Since I understand that, I can understand the need of folks to gather for Diwali.
