Red House over yonder.
While walking in the Mt. Pleasant area I was amazed by all the cars parked on paved over front yards. Many areas in TO are a car theft paradise due to a lack of truly secure parking. Do devices like those metal rods that lock onto steering wheels work? Has the increase in car thefts changed how you use or store your vehicle?

Not really, the Cub can be drilled with a cordless drill in les than 5 seconds and unlocked by anyone who knows how to watch Youtube, the best systems are stsrter disconnect systems.
These systems will not let the car start even if a FOB is cloned. If a professional thief can not start your car in less than 60 seconds they will move on.
There are also ways to interrupt power to the fuel pump so the engine will crank but not start.

They will cut your steering wheel with a saw in 20 seconds. Seen it repiedetly. Also they can drill the lock if you face it towards the driver.
Get TAG tracking installed from Speedy glass. Moatly what u can do. Also aftermarket alarms could help but if you want your car back get TAG

It is possible to remove the club by cutting the wheel, however, there is the pain in the ass factor associated with it. It takes time, it's noisey, cutting the wheel wrecks the wheel (and that is not desireable) . For all those reasons and more, hopefully a thief will simply pick another car.

Exactly. You just need to slow down a thief just enough that they'd rather move to another car.

Steering wheel bar locks quite common when I was living in Australia 20 years ago. Because still a lot of late 70's cars with lmost no anti theft in them still on the road, with no road salt corrosion to have to have an effect on them.

The Club locks just say - move on to something easier. They can be defeated.

Down in Oz they would wrap a rag loosely around the lock end, then while wearing welding gloves pour liquid nitrogen over the rag.
Wait 10 seconds and have second guy smash the cold embrittled lock part.
It would shatter and gloves guy would toss those bits out the window and head off to the next mark while no gloves guy hot wires the car and takes off.

I remove all 4 wheels and leave the car on jack stands, wheels go to the basement- a bit inconvenient when you're in a hurry but can't argue with success as the car has never been stolen!
Another plus side is i've been walking a lot more
Also it is manual transmission which helps too

Buy a fake snake and leave inside the car seat. Yes a tag is nice and disconnecting the starter is ideal.

Forogt the other thread this was discussed in, but manual transmissions are great deterrents.
