I love the fact that people are putting flags on their cars for world cup..... but, I was talking to this guy today... he was going on about "HIS" country and how great it was... I asked him if he was born there... his reply was "no" I said then your Canadian... he said ya but i dont like it here.... WTF.. i got kinda pissed and said.. If its soooooo great there ..."go THERE"...
Seriously, pride of your heritige is awesome... BUT BE A PROUD CANADIAN ALSO... cause if it was so great where ever you came from your parents and your whole fuckin family would still be there.... so I instantly stopped at one of those guys parked in the parking lots and bought 2 Canadian window flags... GOD BLESS CANADA ....

I totally agree. I can't stand when people bitch and complain about Canada and they talk about their country of origins as if it's the greatest place on earth. If that's so, why not go live there then. No disrespect to immigrants, but when you move here and keep talking about the flaws of Canada and how much you miss your native country. You see the odd guy flying both flags, but usually it's one moron or another flying the flag of the "homeland" The worst are the idiots who stick a full sized flag out the window, or the sun roof. The cops should start pulling them over for reckless.

The world cup is not about soccer, it's about nationalism. The thing is that 99% of these people left the homeland cause life was shit there. The worst this time round seem to be the Portugese. Hence my complete and utter desire to see Portugal eliminated as soon as humanly possible.

I am not sure where I heard/read this but it is a matter or respect and etiquete that when you fly another country's flag you should also fly the flag of the country you are currently living in. Both should be of equal size.

What bothers me most about the flag thing is that most people who fly the flags on their cars aren't even from the country they are flying for. I mean, are there really that many brazilians in canada? Maybe this is why we have players born in canada who end up playing for countries like England. The whole situation here is really created by Canada's lack of sponsorship of our own soccer players. When will we learn that canadians have brought on our own troubles with this mosaic structure of life. Sure it is a great thing that we celebrate our history, but at what point do we become canadians?

The worst this time round seem to be the Portugese. Hence my complete and utter desire to see Portugal eliminated as soon as humanly possible.

Portugese are all gung-ho until they lose, then they always start to root for Brazil. I have lots of Portugese friends, but I am of Scottish descent. Don't see me with an English flag just because the Scots can't field a decent team.

I don't mind them flying the flag of their 'original' homeland. But when July 1st comes you better damn well be flying the biggest-ass Canadian flag you can find.

P.S. Maybe Canada should spend more time/money and invest in soccer rather than the CFL. Appears to be more support for soccer based on the number of flags on cars these days. I never see too many Argo or TiCat flags.

let's not lose perspective

Hey guys. Let's not lose perspective over this. First off, I don't think there's a problem with having a flag or flags of a country that you are not originally from. The game of soccer is just a sport, and the world cup is just another sporting event. If I chose to support a team I like, then there shouldn't be a problem with showing my support by having that team's flag on my car, or window,etc. Just because I'm not from there, I just like the team so I'll support it. Secondly, again, keeping in mind that soccer is a sport (not a war), the reason why I see people not having the canadian flags on there car is....(this might be late breaking news for some) ..... is because we didn't qualify, we're not in the world cup!!!!!!! It's like I have a Brazilian buddy who hoists the Canadian flag on his car (with a lot of pride) when the Canadian hockey teams go for the gold in olympic or world events, but you don't see him hoisting a Brazilian flag as well. He knows that Brazil doesn't have a hockey team. LOL. Now, if there is a sporting event where both the Canadians and your native country are involved, then show support for both, since we are Canadian. Don't get me wrong, I think we should have the canadian flag shown all the time, but, it's also o.k. to show support for a team, it just so happens that on a world or international level, the teams represent their country. But that's all they are. My 2 cents.

I have to agree with IA . If the flag is for support of the team you like then by all means show it. I have a neighbor that is from england but has a brazil flag on his car because he likes that team and players theres nothing wrong with it. It's like when i went to montreal to watch the leafs play i wore my leaf jersey,by most of these posts you guys are saying i should have worn a montreal jersey with it since i was in montreal, but i can't stand them why would i show support for them they are not my team.
On july first i agree everyone with a flag on there car should also have a canadian flag on the other side because then you are supporting canada on canada day,and your team in the world cup.
