Your personal files don't get transferred automatically to your new family doctor.
Your previous family doctor usually needs to keep a record of your file for up to 7 years (legal reasons). So, the usual procedure is to contact your previous doctor and make arrangements to get your file transferred – the original or a copy of it. Also, if photocopies are needed you might be charged for it but it all depends on the Dr.

Hope that helps. :)
OK thanks paradiso, I actually DONT want my files transfered because they contain senstive information.
Do you also know if its mandatory for doctors to destroy your file after 7 years or do most doctors keep their files of you indefinitely???

I'm kinda hoping the guy shredded them to hell but I'm not sure if he did.
The doctor in question who has my records hasnt seen me since 1994.
So I'm wondering what the odds are that he got rid of them.

Escohort: The doctor in question wouldn't happen to be Dr. Stubbs would it?

I found your files mixed up with mine. By the way how did Stubbs ever manage to take the right hand loop out of your winkie?

Why do people believe, and where does it say, that those files are their own private property?
I believe the only rules are for anyone holding personal information on others is to keep it confidential.

Confidential my ass! The following information is from Escohort's personal files from Dr. Stubbs office. "The patient (Escohort) wanted a penis extension and enlargement. Patient had only a 2" winkie. The extension was successful. We managed to add 6" to patients winkie. Unfortunately the patient's winkie now loops to the right. To mitigate the right hand looping we have suggeted to Escohort that he tie and attach a one pound lead weight to his winkie to counteract and cure the right hand looping effect of the extension operation".

I think this proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Doctor's files are not confidential.

:) I wonder who came up with dumb rule?
Are you talking about the confidentiality of patients files or Escohort having to attach a one pound lead weight to his winkie?
