it works, but stay with the complete program, and do the entire maintainence part, or you will revert to old habits and you will put it back on
it is entirely based on controlling spikes in insulin, thereby controlling apetite. oh and you don't eat much either, so it is tough at first, but it works.

What kind of food is involved? Or is it a liquid diet?

Don't do it all diets work at first trouble is most people don't stay on them because they are not realistic for a lifetime.
don't spend money, cut down what you eat , don't starve yourself
try to walk or exercise a little.

Don't get trapped into the quick loss.

Oh drink lots of water fills you up no calories.

A friend of mind did it, lost a lot of weight very quickly, but had no energy other than after her injections. Eventually her hair started to fall out as well.

It's a no-carb program. You live on salads, a bit of meat, and injections. Gradually, after the initial weight loss, they start to add more of a variety of foods back in to your diet. But it seemed to me on observing my friend, that if the nutritional needs were well balanced, than her hair wouldn't have been falling out. Overall she had a rather sickly look as well from losing the weight too quickly.

If you want a professional program, go with something like Weight Watchers. You won't lose more than about 2 pounds a week, but that is all anyone should be losing if they are doing it in a healthy way.

DANGEROUS program!

As a medical professional Bernstein should be tarred and feathered - he is a disgrace to all in his profession.

If you want any specifics about how he does what he does pm me.

NO NO NO

I have done the Dr. B diet before.

At first it was amazing, I lost 20 pounds in the first month, after that it gets hard, you become very tired and cold. Your hair does fall out because of the lack of nutrients.

The viatamins are suppposed to be Viatiam B6 and B12.

The diet is $550 a month. Also if you dont lose 2.5-5 pounds a week they will eventually kick you out.

I lost the weight but gained it all back just as fast as I lost it. You cannot deviate, I am not joking when i say if you eat a peice of chocolate, you will gain 3 pounds the next day.

Your body is starving while on that diet and it is based on that fact that by starving the body, the body will then start burning keytones(stored fat).

I researched this diet and it is not wise to try.

I have been on weight watchers and have lost the weight, though it took double the time, but i havent gained anything back, and can eat normal foods.

Pm me if you would like more info.

My SO tried it - she lost about 100lbs - but did not keep up with the program in the end or the maintenance. She re-gained about 50 pounds.

It's too expensive and too quick a weight loss program. You basically put your body into a state of ketosis or starvation. Daily caloric intake is about 600.

Don't recommend it.

Ok here is my two cents.... i looked at Dr. Bs diet and then looked at the way diabetics eat as i was becoming insulin resitant.
A little history is i was a vegetarian for about 10 years and kept putting on weight over the years and eventually got up to 260 lbs and that is while cycling and playing hockey and rugby.
i then decided to read the atkins and south beach diet. they all seemed to be based on the same idea of changing my blood sugar levels and getting the body to change the way it handles sugar and fats. I usd part of the Atkins and part of the south beach. I cut back on carbs at first i used the induction phase for one week. i then slowly added more complex carbs and only shopped on the outside of the grocery store never venturing into the inside ailses. By eating mainly non processed foods and watching my suagr intake i was able to drop 55 lbs in 6 monthes with no loss of energy and actually keeping my blood sugar low enough to let my body burn fat for fuel.
As others have said it is differeent for everyone. but by becoming aware of what i was eating it made me much more aware of ingredients of food and what to watch for hence making me a healthier eater.

My ex went on it, and basically it's a quick way to lose 20 lbs, but it doesn't get to the root problem which is:

>>>We're fat coz we eat wrong and don't exercise enough...

I lost 15 lbs last winter by:

1.) not keeping any junkfood in the house
2.) not eating after 8PM
3.) a good cardio workout 3-4 times per week
4.) modest meals and no seconds

I guarantee if you follow the simple rules above you WILL shed pounds...

There is NO magic bullet to weight loss, and quite frankly with the Bernstein diet I didn't like how they "threatened" my wife to lose weight...

IE>> if she didn't lose "X" lbs a week she'd be kicked out...

Who the f*ck are they to dictate to us when we're PAYING them?

That did NOTHING to build my ex's self esteem or help her modify her lifestyle..

The main problem with Atkins is that it's not a balanced diet. Organism needs carbs (in moderation, of course). It doesn't distinguish types of cholesterol: HDL (from non-saturated fat, beneficial) and LDL (from saturated and trans-fat). LDL causes clogging of artheries. Ratio between HDL and LDL should be maintained at 5:1 for organism to function properly.
I am no expert, however Atkins is only very low carbs during the induction stage, after you get to the maintenance stage there are alot of carbs, all of them healthy carbs.

Also, Atkins does push the good types of fat verses the bad.

The one thing to remember about Atkins, once you achieve maintenance is it a very healthy and balanced lifestyle. As a society, we eat way too much processed food with added surgar.
