The New York Public Library will keep six controversial Dr. Seuss books on the shelves despite this week’s decision to cease their publication due to racist imagery.

The library, which serves Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island, said it does not censor books and will keep the controversial titles in circulation until they are no longer in suitable shape to lend out, a spokeswoman said.

“As with all public libraries the New York Public Library does not censor books,” library spokeswoman Angela Montefinise said.

“In this case, the six titles in question are being pulled out of print by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, so the very few copies we have of these titles will continue to circulate until the are no longer in acceptable condition,” Montefinise said.

Why would that even have been in question?
The publisher decided not to do another printing.
Libraries don't remove books because the publisher didn't do another printing. That would be silly.

You're not aware of how powerful this latest round of cancel culture and wokeness is. Toronto and Vancouver public libraries are currently reviewing the titles. These books will be yanked from many a library shelf. Isn't woked/cancel culture great?

That's on them. They will still be available in the back most likely, even in these smaller library circuits.
I'm sorry that it being slightly harder to get your hands on books you have never heard of before or read terrifies you so much.

Nope. They'll be removed. Virtue signallers gotta virtue signal. How exactly am I terrified?

I honestly don't know what's worse anymore: the "snowflakes" on the left who get offended easily over everything or the "snowflakes" on the right who feel butt-hurt over such trivial bullshit.

So now "they" tell you what you can and can't sell based on what "mob" deemed offensive. Nothing to see here, nothing to worry about!

eBay to remove Dr. Seuss books over ‘hate and discrimination’ – but you can still buy Mein Kampf there

And what are the shareholders afraid of? They're afraid of the corporation facing a boycott from a "Twitter Mob" that sometimes comes from both sides of the aisle but far more often comes from the Left

Anyone taking cues as to which direction to point their moral compass from corporations is a confused person.
Losing money. The clear majority of people aren't the microaggression obsessed snowflakes that freak out about 'cancel culture' and realize that the world has changed.

I am depressed, when I was a little prick fresh off the boat, I learned to read from Dr. Seuss. Rainbow eggs and ham.

What next, Mark Twain.

...

And if parents don't want to buy the books that one thing, but stopping a cultural legacy because they want to police our minds....
????
If parents don't want to buy these obscure Seuss books than the company has no reason to reprint them. No one is banning Seuss and no one is making people get rid of old copies of books they have.

I doubt most people had ever heard of most the books these people are complaining about.

So is head lice in school age children however that problem doesn’t try and control society
Yet every public health system, school, day care, and related industries have clear policies on what needs to be done about them. No reason not to do the same for white supremacy.

... we have a responsibility to create a strong society .....
We do. Seems you and others don't like that this strong society is one that should reflect all of society and not just those who were influential in the 1950's.

Would you be upset if the public library got rid of books by Muslim authors that portrayed westerners with negative stereotypes?

yip, I guess I will have to read all my Dr. Seuss books under the bedsheets with a flashlight cuz I dont want to offend the ultra-sensitive peeps out there. :censored:
If you legit have em scan em and post em

I never heard of these titles as a kid
I never saw them as a parent

Quite frankly I never heard of them until this non-story came out

I admit being curious what could be offensive in them and would love to see some sources to determine what is being erased

Funny to see someone who gets so mad when people criticize outdated stereotypes pretend to be outraged at an outdated stereotype.
