I don't like how they browbeat a lot of the entrepreneurs into giving up 51% of the company.

One of the best episodes was last season when some kids' high school teacher (who was also their partner) lambasted the DD panel for taking advantage of the kids' business inexperience by underpaying for control of their company.

The DD guys were shocked that someone would stand up to them and the egg on their faces was a welcome relief.

I agree, they are not entrepreneurs, the dragons are money grubbing greedy thugs who take everything on the money is the bottom line, , they have no sense of pride in a compnay which makes the world a better place, I'd like to go on there and lambaste them and order them to turn in their Canadian Citezenship. Then put a flame thrower to them and burn their asses.
Of course some of the guests were wack jobs asking for 500,000 for a 3 cent idea. Its very entertaining all the same.
I like that episode where the professor threw it in their face and ripped the check.

See where that umpire came up with a video which shows all the rules of baseball, over 700 of them i video format, They scoffed that no one would buy the video for 30.00, Im sure in every bar in Canada and the US is some know it all who would buy the video to show off their knowledge of the gam,e , thats hundreds of thousands of videos, not to mention all the baseball teams in north america, he even had the support of the AL for th video and they still shot him down,
and then the gy wo wante to ptoduce energy use the tides, in east coast, this is a marvelous idea, free power from the ocean, to produce millions of megawatts, they said he was nuts,
they have no vision, only immediatley short term dollars.
they should get one or two real entrepreneurs on that show and make it truly Canadian

Alot of you guys are forgetting the point of the show. *It is ENTERTAINMENT!*
Who do you think 90% of the audience are? I'm pretty sure they're not high
class businessmen like Strongbeau! :p

Also, this show is about investing to turn a profit, not charity grants to subsidise
every bloke with a vision.

And you firmly believe that these guys are investing their own money?

The DD panel are just manipulative leaches. Either no one likes something or the all foam at the mouth. Unless of coarse one of them shows an interest and then they all try to jump in. Should you be unlucky enough to have a good idea, they will only try to westle control and steal the business for themselves. BTW, some of the ideas are petty good. I can't wait for the asian knock-offs to fill the stores.

Entertainment or real life?

If is entertainment, they do a good lob of simulating real life as far as the deal parameters are concerned.

99.999% of all people will try to get the best deal possible for themselves. Thats human nature

People with $ or the authority to invest other peoples $, have that $ or authority because they understand the risks of investing. Most of them get approached on a regular basis with many ideas. Most of the ideas are bad or marginal.

If you had 10,000 saved up & a friend approached you to borrow 5,000 to start a lawn cutting company, you would have to assess the odds of him being successful or you lose half your money. You may want a say in how it is operated. In the Dragons case these are strangers asking for $ and for far more than $5,000

People looking to get access to cash often are very surprised the investor does not poney up to get in on his / her washyourdog.com, cant lose, make millions idea & then get pissed when they will have to give up control or pay 20+% interest.
Higher risk>>>>> Higher return expected

Absolutely true. I was watching an episode the other day (I can't remember the product) and they asked the guy if he's patented his design. He said there was a patent in Europe but not in North America. You could see the little lightbulb come on as the Dragons realized they could go steal the guy's business idea and not pay him a cent for it.

Now I remember! It was a fishing game where you use lures to toss your little fish into a round target.

The Dragons all laughed at the guy's game but by the end of the show they were paying him several hundred dollars for less than a hundred bucks worth of materials. At first I couldn't figure out why. Then I realized... they wanted him to make them prototypes so they could go into business for themselves (since he hadn't patented it). Sickening.
