usually this means clean the laser lense. but, I've done so multiple times and still am getting this error.

my dvd player is a Marantz UD9004 and is 3 years old. not under warranty anymore so I don't what to expect in getting parts for this $6000 pos.

any suggestions?

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Have you tried more than one disc, if its a burn or a different region disc sometimes it doesn't play on some players. Ironically alot of times they will play on a cheaper player, and not on a high priced one...it's true.

I have a more moderately priced unit and got this problem. I tried everything to no avail until i pulled the units power cord out, waited a few minutes, plugged it back in and presto ....all better. The manufacturer told me that its a software problem and it arises when you run into a bad disk. According to them it will continue to see all disks as bad until you pull the plug and restart.

Might work.

My $30 Wal-Mart DVD was playing fine when I sold it for $5 because I bought a The Source DVD Upconverter player. Is there a typo in your post? Did you mean $60.00 or $6,000.00?

I bought some cheap DVD's at Wal-Mart, they did not all play on my Pioneer DVD recorder but encountered no problems on my $30 Wal-Mart DVD player.

could also mean the laser is screwed... a friend in the electronics repair sees this often. usually not worth replacing the laser, often they're not even available.
