apparently Allen Iverson had retired... yes, i've been out of the loop in basketball.

But I hear he's almost bankrupt and no NBA teams will re-sign him also. Bling bling and too much show of wealth. I'd have imagined growing up in a rough childhood would make one realize the value of money and hard work, but i guess easy come, easy go. :p

Another dumbass bites the dust. Who's next?

I did not mention race at all and it is wrong of you to assume that that had anything to do with my comment.

suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee!..excuses dude..be a man, say what you mean.
In brief, what I mean is that people who grow up the way Iverson did, be they black, white, or whatever, more times than not do not "escape" the poverty and crime that surrounds them. No doubt, many work hard and become all of the things you mentioned and more. A fortunate few have God given talents that allow them to make more many than all but a very small percentage of people will ever make. I have no sympathy for them when they piss that away and to me, is an indication of where they probably would have wound up otherwise. That blacks make up a greater percentage of professional athletes and hip hop artists does not make my original comment racist.

Article from 2009

In a less public way, other athletes from the nation's three biggest and most profitable leagues—the NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball—are suffering from a financial pandemic. Although salaries have risen steadily during the last three decades, reports from a host of sources (athletes, players' associations, agents and financial advisers) indicate that:
• By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce.
• Within five years of retirement, an estimated 60% of former NBA players are broke.
