Tonight CBC is airing "sex traffic" a BBC film about the EEsp situation. It was shot in halifax last year with an IA crew. That means it won't look like the typical CBC stuff. I saw part of it in a preview in London a few months back and it looks pretty good. Check it out. In the origional script the girls where being sent to T.O. but it was changed to Boston to give it some american appeal. Then american carriers wouldn't pick it up because of russian lobbyists trying to improve the russian image in the USA. The Director and DP are brits, and the talent are czech and romanian. Sounds like the pro cafe on any given afternoon.

Part 1 of 2 of this program airs Sunday Oct 10 at 8:00 pm.

A powerful new two-part dramatic mini-series that weaves contemporary stories from around the world into one bold narrative, revealing how a billion dollar global business, the trafficking of young women into sexual slavery, is operating throughout Europe. At the heart of the drama are two young Moldovan sisters, who are trafficked through Romania, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia, Italy to the dark side of London, betrayed along the way by pimps, police and politicians.

Wendy Crewson, John Simm, Chris Potter, Len Cariou, Maury Chaykin, Robert Joy, Luke Kirby and newcomers Anamaria Marcinca and Maria Popistasu as sisters Elena and Vara.

My girlfriend is from Moldova. She knows many girls who have traveled out-of-country for jobs, but she has never mentioned knowing anyone in this situation.

My guess is most of the girls are from the country, quite naive and get roped into quite a sophisticated network.

I guess we'll see how the media portrays this situation.

Along the same lines, I saw a great doc from BBC earlier this year about a British man who goes to Bucharest to take advantage of young boys there. He apparently has a network set up to send these kids to Western Europe and back for profit. The filmmaker posed as a prospective client to get all kinds of footage of this guy.

Sadly, I was actually in Bucharest BEFORE seeing this film. I think I might have spent some time actually looking for him; I was that mad after watching.

It's an eye opener. Reality. Makes me sick how they treat those girls. But then again it happens in all parts of the world.

It hasn't finished yet but one on the sub-plots is that the sex trade is supplying Western hobbyists (Western companies helping in the rebuilding of Bosnia).

Another, is that one is now doing well (Vara) in London (UK) and has her own flat. I won't say too much for now.

Canada...
status quo/ cycle continues, seemed to be the moral...

It had a nice ending, with mother and son reunited...it will be interesting to see what the CBC's rating are, as it was more edgy than their usual disney fare...

I'm suprised that there isn't a heated debate (amongst the ones that normal discuss this topic) about the real or fictional aspects of sextraffic.

Gripping to say the least. I suppose being a hobbyist made watching it that much more enthralling. (No puns intended.)

Maybe it was a sign, as I had an EE SP booked for Sunday night; she cancelled at the last minute so I watched part I.

I know it's a reality in Canada right and here in Toronto. Chinese and EE places get raided from time to time. Escorts and MPs. Makes me wonder...my place in that situation.
I watched both nights and thought it was a good show.
