Every member of the presidential cabinet is unelected. So its nothing new in the system. Every political system has powerful unelected officials.
They are confirmed via senate hearing and votes.
Not the case with Elon who bought his way into the system.

I find it odd that some "auditors" can't get access to this information.
I think the bigger concern was his ability to mess with payments for the various programs, access to sensitive personal data such as SSNs and bank account numbers among other things.
