Has anyone else ever had Eudora 7.1 suddenly go berserk and give a “error reading from the network connection aborted due to timeout or other failure [10053]” message - This is only true for outgoing messages it’s still receiving incoming messages just fine. This problem suddenly developed literally between sending one email message and the next.

If there is no suggestion for a fix, any suggestions about a new e-mail client, I know 'The Bat' is good technically, but I don't much care for the screen layout.

I haven't heard about it since maybe 2000. Apparently it's still under active development, to be based on Thunderbird going forward.

Yup supposedly going to become shareware. However, I like it and I've never had a problem until now.

What are the rest of you using?

Been using Eudora since day one. Excellent program and never seen a virus that affects it.

Timing out looks like your outgoing settings may have changed. That happened to me once. Check that your SMTP server is correct in tools/options.
