I haven't posted in this thread in quite some time because frankly, I have nothing to add other than what I've already said. I've read the various posts and my opinion has not changed (imagine that). I remain opposed to a mass muslim migration to the West. I don't believe their values are compatible with those of a secular society.

I have however been amazed at what is going on in Germany. (The one place these migrants want to relocate to.) I have acquaintances who came to Canada by way of Germany. All of them Christian Eastern Europeans (several from the Balkans, and 2 from Poland and one from White Russia.) They all told the same tale of how the Germans for the most part hated their guts because they weren't German and never would be. So I have been AMAZED at watching Merkel et al just opening the doors wide open to Islamic migrants. (German guilt over Hitler??)

But now it would seem the Germans are starting to really question the logic of accepting millions (and it will be millions) of Islamic refugees.

An interesting article in today's Globe and Mail by Margret Wente.

For years, Germans have been told by their elites that they desperately need migrants to subsidize their pensions, replenish their aging population and address a growing shortage of skilled workers. That would make sense if the migrants were a lot like Germans. But they’re not. Only a small number of the newcomers are well-educated professionals. Many more are illiterate, traumatized, children, or old. The majority are young men, with few skills and nothing to do. Almost none speak German. They are a poor fit with Germany’s highly skilled, rigidly structured labour market.

Their cultural values are a poor fit, too. As one editorial writer commented, “Ultra-religious Muslims – and Christians – are coming face to face with a society that is indifferent to religion. Newcomers with rigid moral codes must learn to deal with the fact that in Germany gay people can openly kiss each other.”

The refugees are also a poor fit with one another. There are Muslims and Christians, Sunnis and Shiites, Kurds, Albanians and Kosovars. They bring their ethnic tensions with them

The issue is where Germany will find immigrants who will counterbalance their dying population and... be German. Answer of course is that these beasts do not exist.

Canada has the best record - I would guess - for assimilating newcomers. We screen them very carefully in a selection process. But even so, they have changed Canada fundamentally. My dad's Canada no longer exists. That's the Canada where everyone was White, Italians were considered exotic and inferior and where having a British last name and belonging to a Protestant congregation gave you social acceptability. And where French Canadians were the losers that General Wolfe beat up in 1759.

If Europe's definition of nationhood is as rigid as my dad's ideal of Canada, no immigrant group is going to be acceptable.

Mmmm, but does Germany really NEED immigrants that much? I know I've read the baffle-gab about our aging population this, and Westerners not reproducing enough that, etc. etc. But really, is it a truth, or is it an exaggeration? Seriously. With automation, and the changing economy shifting away from physical production, do we really need to import hoards of young people to turn the cogs of industry? Do we not have enough already? For that matter, if Germany did need such people, could they not import them from southern Europe or the east??

Does Germany need millions of unskilled, uneducated, unspeaking, unwilling to work individuals?

The other thing is, and I admit, I'm racially stereotyping here, is that Middle Easterners just don't do physical work that well. They look down their noses at trades people or labourers. (I know, I've seen it. They'd rather drive a cab for peanuts than be a construction labourer for $40.00 plus plus plus.) I was in Syria once a long time ago. It takes them 2 years to rebuild a section of road that we in Toronto would do in 2 months. They just don't do physical work. So really, culturally speaking, are these the guys you figure are going to put doors on Volkswagens? (Assuming VW is still here in 2 years.) Or are they just going to be the guys who are still on welfare 3 generations from now?

Czech President Milos Zeman has sparked outrage by claiming migrants will stone unfaithful women and cut off thieves' hands, while Islamic veils will deprive his country of women's beauty.
The outspoken politician, 71, who is known for his controversial remarks, told employees at a butcher's shop in the eastern village of Lechotice: 'We'll be deprived of women's beauty, because they'll be covered from head to toe.
'This would obviously be an advantage for some women, but they're few and far between.'
His comments come as hundreds of migrants trapped in Croatia reached Slovenia today, after Hungary shut its border.

Slovenia will only allow 2,500 migrants to cross its borders daily - half the number neighbour Croatia has asked for.
Interior Ministry Secretary of State Bostjan Sefic said Slovenia could not accept Croatia's request to take 5,000, because Austria's daily limit is 1,500.
Most migrants - many from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq - are crossing Croatia and Slovenia to reach western Europe.
The limitation on numbers has led to a build-up of migrants and refugees on Croatia's border with Serbia.

Milos panders to his electorate by blaming Germany for all the country's woes and the Refugee Crisis is a godsend to him.

From following German news feeds it is pretty clear, that there are significant numbers of young Germans in a variety of professions, unable to obtain work in their fields....and they are feeling quite pissed by what's going on

Canada has the same problem, a bunch of well educated youth who suddenly realize that a University education is not a guarantee of a good job and who see themselves too good for blue collar jobs.

No, trades people.

You can make 100 k a year as a construction labourer in Toronto. But you need to be on site at 7 a.m. and you get half an hour for lunch and you're done at 5:00. It's not glamorous, it's hard work, but it's a good living. A university grad will cry about not being able to find a job, but will not even think about training to be a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or labourer. Hate to break it to them, but when they chose to enroll in university and picked a BA in psychology or sociology, or some such non-career program, well, you graduate to whatever you make of it. Education is never a waste of time, but simply having a degree is not a guarantee of a job. I don't think it has been for 50 or more years.

Sweden struggles to cope with migrant tide; Orban warns of threat

Sweden said on Thursday it expected up to 190,000 migrants this year, putting unprecedented strain on a country famous for welcoming refugees but planning to house many in tents this winter.

At the opposite pole of the angry debate on the migration crisis, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban urged European leaders to change their immigration policies and consult voters, or face a threat to the democratic order.

Thousands of refugees continued to pour into Slovenia in the hope of reaching prosperous northern Europe, and the tiny country appealed for other European Union states to send police to help manage the flow.

I agree. It's a hard road and usually leads to physical ailments later in life but a job in the trades like plumbing or electrician or metal working can really help a young person and set them up with a skill set not many have these days. If they want to go to university in their mid to late twenties, they will usually have banked enough cash so they won't graduate with crippling debt. The only downside for young men is that their dating pool is rather limited when doing hard labour: the pretty girls in the pencil skirts and working in a comfortable office look down on them with distain, as if they are many social levels ahead of someone that works with their hands. If you are a working man's "man" that wants to find a pretty wife who is several perceived classes above you, you need to be able to clean up well, become well read, show an interest in culture so you can chat about topical subjects and sound edumicated. Otherwise it doesn't matter how much you make a year, you will be stuck with a couple of baby mommas and wondering why you couldn't date "up". The catch 22 is that it's pretty hard to do all that while putting in a long 10 hr day, 6 days a week (cause overtime makes bank). I advise young men to see the trades as a stepping stone, a time in their life where they can do fun things, learn amazing skills but ultimately see it as a way to get to the next level, whether that is management or a university degree or teaching or whatever. No one wants to be breaking their back at 45 like they did at 21. They have to ask themselves how much they want a better life: are you willing to take night class or learn management techniques while putting in a 50hr week or more or are they content just to drink beer and go to strip bars in their downtime? Only one person can answer that. I also tell them to use condoms, there are a lot of lazy women who want to trap a guy so they can stay at home, collect ODSP and let a few different guys pay to raise her kids instead of getting a job.

I sound like an old man lol. Guess I'm getting used to being from another century where values like hard work and integrity used to mean something. I don't blame young men for getting discouraged, how many stories in the news are there about men and women getting rich with little or no effort? The person who invented the Shake Weight is a goddamn millionaire while a man who busts his hump in a car factory at 70k a year gets taxed at 45% of his income while trying to provide for his family.

It's a damn shame what the world is turning into but that just sounds like it's past my bedtime and I need to go yell at the 11o'clock news before retiring to bed.
