One of my friends at work showed me a fake $20 he got stuck with the other day.
Last night I got my own.
I got it from the Beer store at Agincourt Mall at Sheppard and Kennedy.
I am suspicious because the lady checked my $100 very thoroughly yet 1 of the 3 $20s she gives me for change is a fake, and not a very good one at all.
I did not realize until later when the store was closed.
I am planning to go back there and tell her that I am 100% sure she gave me this bill.
If she does not do anything about it I will take it to the police and tell them where it came from.
I would not knowingly try to pass it on to someone else.
I will be checking all of my bills from now on.
The first indication is the texture, rough feel of the fake.
The fine graphics are not very sharp.
The square does not change colours when angled.
The green dots do not come off, and either does the ink when smeared on paper.
There are some fine lines that look sort of like fingerprints that should be on the bill but are not.
These are pretty simple obvious traits one can spot without a black light.
I think it is also a good idea to get in the habit of remembering the last few digits of a bill you hand over in case someone tries to give you back a fake claiming you just gave it to them.
It's only $20 but I am pissed off.
Oh well, shit happens and it is an inexpensive lesson learned.
