100km is what the 400 series and QEW were built for. The problem is volume and grid lock. The other problem is the drivers on cells, blackberries, multi-tasking, another problem is that many drivers believe they are Paul Tracy and veer in and out of traffic or tailNo you're just wronggate to get one vehicle ahead. Arrive Alive!
Actually the design speed for the 400 series of highways is 130 km/hr with some exceptions in urban areas.

Julian Fantino would not know a civil right if it beat him over the head. He was more effective than many police chiefs, and perhaps more honest. But the idea that you can't just treat everyone like a criminal, whether they are or not, and that respecting people's rights is also important, just totally escaped him. I am all for real criminals being punished and not having too many rights. But allowing police officers to convict and punish people on the spot is not right.

I think he more than anyone is responsible for the 150 super punishments, he intimidated them into passing the law. I am not crazy about it, but it does seem to have been very effective. If they are telling the truth about the accident rates.

Is there a series 400 Hwy you CAN drive 150 km on a REGULAR basis??? I think not!! The 400's should be posted 120 MAX anyone over that should get NAILED IMHO.
You say 120, I say 130, the guy down the street says 140, and grandma says 100. The problem is that everybody thinks a different speed is acceptable. I don't have a problem with the 50 over law because I never get near those speeds. I do have a problem with someone blocking the left frickin lane doing 105 when there's 50 cars lined up behind him or her.

and of course every design engineer knows that you use something at its maximum all the time because you can. Nutts' Since ~20% of Canada population live in Ontario and ~20% of Ontarios population live in the GTA, that exception is pretty significant in this area.

I didn't mean all urban areas. I meant some urban areas such as the 403 through Hamilton. I would be happy with a 120 km/hr speed limit. 100 km/hr is tediously slow.

400 series highways all have a 120 km/hr design speed. And that design speed is based on the the least performance able car.

Which is even where more than 20% of the population lives. So a trip across the GTA, not in rush hour of course will take you ~10 minutes less. I didn't know you were in that much of a hurry.

Perhaps I wasn't making myself clear. I used the 403 through Hamilton as an example of where the highway has a lower design speed, in this case due to the sharp curves. In most cases the design speed is 120 - 130 km/hr even in the urban areas. Also, it's not that I'm in a hurry, it's just that 100 km/hr feels too slow.

No problems. I do understand . They make it 100 kph, people drive 110-120 kph or more, and can't bitch when they get nailed, unless the guy that just passed them was the one who got away.

I take it that you do live in Caledonia?
No but I do know people who live there and they are none too happy. I bet you could drive 150 in Fantino's Ontario if you're a native without ramifications.
