I've been a big fan of Australian Shiraz for a while now. When I feel like something a bit more subtle and smooth, I like a good Pinot Noir or Merlot. There is an excellent wine out of Oregon from Amity Vinyards. It is their Willamette Valley Pinot. My current favourite wine.
I agree about Canadian wine. Ever since we stopped making wine from Concord grapes, we've improved by leaps and bounds.

I'm involved with the wine industry and the one thing that has been proven over and over again is "to each their own". What I may like... you may dislike and vice versa. While price generally dictates the overall quality... I've personally experienced many high end wines that I disliked. While at the same time there are a number of great inexpensive wines out there. One of my most pleasant surprises of this past year was a 2003 Cab Merlot from Mike Weir's Ontario Winery... which he uses to raise funds for his worthwhile charity foundation.

Wolf Blass Yellow Label
Masi Valpollicella (spelling?)
Gato Negro

Also, the Pelee Island winery has some good ones but can't remember which ones I've tried...

Australian Shiraz is my current preference although there are good ones from all over including niagara, its just my current preference.
I agree. Lately, though, I've been really into Shiraz/Cabernet blends. $10 - Hardy's Stamp of australia. Best one is Lakefield- "Promised Land" Australian Shiraz/Cabernet, around $15.

For once I believe what Calloway is saying ;) as I too was pleasantly surprised early in the year when bottle on the table at the Keg called out to me and I drank the damn thing!!!

I love getting drunk while helping others out!!!!

I go along with your "tasting notes" , Calloway ...
I had Mike's Cab Merlot at Hunters Pointe a few months ago , couldn't find it at the LCBO and ended up dealing for a case at the restaurant . Thanks for the link ....
My latest discovery : Wishing Tree Shiraz, SE Australia , 7.99 at Worl of Wines in BUF ( Tue is 10% off everything day..) , compares favourably with many a $20 wine.

Have any of you tried the "organic" reds? Or, the French wines in a box, like "French Rabbit?" Not bad at all!
