I remember reading an article 10 years ago that sometimes police pressure coroners into making autopsy reports look favourable towards them.

Hhmm.......makes me think

I respectfully disagree Counsellor .

Here is the Minnesota definition of Third Degree Murder. It's almost as if it was written specifically for this smug asshole.

"Third-degree murder carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison. It is defined in the state's criminal statute as applicable to "whoever, without intent to effect the death of any person, causes the death of another by perpetrating an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life."

I also don't agree that just because the cop was kneeling on his neck, the cause of death has to be asphyxiation or strangulation. The placement of his knee was quite close, if not pressing on, the carotid artery. This would have the effect of reducing the blood flow to his brain by half. As you know, properly applying a choke hold does the same thing to render one unconscious.

The obvious distress of this man could certainly cause a cascading reaction that could cause cardiac arrest.

Do you know if the "thin skull" doctrine applies in criminal proceedings?
Yep.

Plus there will be an independent examination, I suspect.

Need a cause of death first. And I'd have to think about the "thin skull rule".

Seems to have been enough evidence to convince someone to charge him with 3rd degree murder.

Live guy+ cops kneeling on him while he frantically pleads for mercy + loading him up on a gurney like a slab of dead meat = Ipso Fatso (As they said in My Cousin Vinny-I think)

Are you thinking that there is a posssibility that he spontaneously and coincidentally died from natural, unrelated causes while being video'd resting on the street?

You've been online for almost a decade now, Derrick. You should know sarcasm doesnt work very well on internet.

Thats why TPTB are working on a font: https://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2016/08/25/new-sarcasm-font-has-been-released-and-it-is-brilliant/
Sorry, not my fault you didn't pick up on it. Anyway, maybe the cops should have also just shot Floyd too. Counterfeit (allegedly) 20 dollar bill? Similar to looting, you say?

Gun nuts just love shooting things up.

That used to be not as uncommon as we might think. Remember Ontario coronerCharles Smith? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Smith_(pathologist)
That appears to be voluntarily because of the coroner's ideology.

I was talking more about crooked cops pressuring coroners into writing favourable autopsy reports so they couldnt be charged with excessive assault, or other crimes. I dont know if thats true though. I do remember reading a newspaper article that seemed to suggest that

Hi Fradi, you are right and I am aware of that. However, what I said was in reference to how repeatedly blacks are victims of police brutality resulting in death in the U.S. It goes without saying that a lot of countries have their problems with racism but considering that they U.S. has such a serious racial problem that has been an integral part of its history then, they should not be pointing the finger at other countries because they have no moral higher ground to do so.
I totally agree with you.
The US has a history of poking its nose everywhere throughout the world and pointing fingers without looking in the mirror.
At the same time every time a country is in trouble the first place they look towards help is the US.

With the amount of black Americans suffering from these underlying issues, and thus under COVID19 threat, I'm surprised the ME didn't just say he died from that.

Why not, most Habs fans or Russians or Swedes would have no problem with that
Ah, so you're saying you're no better than that Minneapolis cop then. Good for you

Point taken.

Let's wait for a coroner's cause of death. And we can check the definition of 3rd degree murder in MN.

There's also the issue of whether the cops had a legal duty to provide medical care to someone in their custody, regardless of the cause of his distress.

Yes, Smith voluntarily faked his coroner's reports - as did Motherisk - to give his clients what he thought they were looking for, to justify his fees and to keep his customers coming back.

But someone who'll do that shit, will do specific "favours" as well, if asked - especially if a few bucks changes hands.
