The Journal only published the study. The actual study was conducted by a New Jersey clinic that interviewed 537 women. It is probably true that we don't need a study to prove the obvious.

"Normal" means the majority of women. "Abnormal" means the minority (i.e. does not fall within the "norm").

One of the findings of this study is that a majority of women have no sexual desire. So, that is the "normal" state.
