GT3 could beat it, 911T could beat it, Lotus Exige would demolish it and its around the same price...The new M3 would beat a C6 around a track so would an RS4
Mongrel: like I said, take a trip to the tracks and see for yourself.

Your kidding right? You sound like a GM hater. I went on yahoo autos and looked at some specs. The Exige is a good car, but with the Corvette you get double the horsepower for around the same price. I've watched the Vette being made at the plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and those are not crap parts. I think upon closer inspection, that you'd be singing a different tune about the Vette.
A sports car isnt necessarily about "power"....and figure the Exige has half the power but is quicker.

The Exige would provide waaay more of a thrill than a Vette....there would be no comparison. But I know about the Vette...probably more than you think...I was actually considering it, some of it is good but the other half is crap, and do your research it does share interior parts with lesser GM cars...Its not even really about the fact that it shares parts, but it shares parts that dont make sense...Why the hell would they put a big ol truck steering wheel on this car??

I'm not knocking the Vette, you pretty much get what you pay for with that car...nothing too hot about it.

Dont get me wrong guys... I think the Vette is not bad....but its not SO so hot and although it is good value, it is not the best value.

Its ...not bad.

I would understand if someone bought it... I personally wouldnt go there, I just dont agree with the "American mandate" when it comes to cars.

I knew I was going to get flamed :)

Well, as for being quicker, or the performance of a vehicle, it is all about power to weight ratio, balance etc so while a vehicle may be quicker out of the hole, it may not be as stable at speed.

Now as for all the other comparisons, let's look at cost and reliability etc. You can drive a vette day in and day out and I even knew someone who drove their's in the winter. Try that with a lotus.

As for sharing parts with other models, what is your point? Every manufacturer does that to some extent. For instance: if you have a good seat, who cares if it's on a chevette AND a corvette? Same as the 3 pont seat belt. If the anchors need to be designed to meet a DOT spec, and all vehicles have to meet or exceed that spec, why WOULDN'T a manfacturer make one part for all vehicles?

If you want to talk about bang for your buck: pick yourself up a fiero. Those things were the perfect definition of a sports car. Handled like it was on rails, 2 seater, super stiff chassis, and it was CHEAP. Once they went with the V6 those things were a total blast to drive and with stock suspension. I mean, talk about parts sharing? The engine/drivetrain was directly removed from a citation and turned around backwards. They even had the tie rods and centre link. The only thing it didn't have was the steering box.

Yeah but

The VAST majority of those who buy cars like this have another car for the daily drive. I dont know anybody that plans to get by with just a Vette. And of all the people I know with Vettes, they have another ride or two. So who cares if you can drive it in the winter...most sane people wouldnt do it anyways.... a 400+ HP Torque happy RWD low slung sports car in our winters...yeah thats smart... The times youd be driving the Lotus would probably be the same times you drive the vette. So that point is out the window

Read my point again.. I said that its not quite so much the fact that they share parts as much as it is the fact that they are sharing the WRONG parts. Yeah other manufacturers do this but you'll never notice because they do it right...bu twith the Vette its so blatant...it just looks half assed. You can tell, in the begining they were putting all this thought and care into it and at some point they just said..."ah..fuck it".

But I figured out the problem with the Vette...its the Management and marketing direction of the product line. They are so afraid to step out. They are marketing this car to the old guys who had memories of Jefferson Airplane and their daddy's Vette. So they dont care to make it too advanced, because they know that the oldies will buy it regardless. Even the exposed head lights was a stretch because the old dogs thought it was too "progressive"..they'd rather have the useless old flip up lights. Problem is its not like it was 30 years ago, wealth is being created at a younger age these days...its not only the old guys with money these days..on top of that people buy more now and save less. They should be directing this car to a younger crowd..the crowd that can financially and physically afford to drive a car like this. Lets face it, a sports car isnt the best thing for a 60yr old's back and liquidating some of RRSP your money to be used for retirement to buy a car you can barely stand physically isnt the best move.

That car is a chick magnet, just stating that you drive a Ferrari in a conversation would get you a multitude of chicks. However, I think Ferrari's are overpriced. Best sportscar in the world hands down, dollar for dollar is the Corvette. There is simply no better value out there.
The new GTR will hand the Vette (and most other cars) it's lunch.

And porsche for power to weight.

Any one can be quick out of the hole just need raw hp & tire traction.

In terms of desire, this is dated survey.

Sorry, Vette became #2 after Stuttgart factory tour.

the c6 z06 is definately up there, runs 11s stock, bang for the buck.

or just get this (no good deals in GTA at the very moment)

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/car/692439091.html

competed with the ferrari 348, timeless looks, all alum frame, mid engine, rare, reliable, exclusive, unique, just bit slow. looks like ferrari, most people wont know the difference anyways. lol

or you want a modern day car that turns heads, Audi R8. although it looks like a stretched TT really.
