Bad Timing...

...but you will find a way to survive.

Get your resume out there and work hard at getting some interviews. How are your references? Do you need to upgrade some skills? Can you afford to take some courses/exams?

The IT market has become very competitive. It can take a very long time to get another position. Employers seem to be looking for the perfect match.

That's why I am always looking. Recently, I turned down a position because I am very happy where I am. But it took a few months to get the offer!

Once you get that next job, ask your boss what his/her expectations are. Make sure you know what level of work that will make them glad they hired you. After a month, ask them how you are doing and for suggested areas in which you can improve.

The first few months are critical. Spend extra time to make sure everything gets done - even if you do not get paid for the time. Do this if the job is worth keeping. I had a 6 month contract that lasted 4 years because I went out of my way to make sure my code was solid. The users praised my work - I kept getting extended. A lot of times, the company is not only disorganized but are resistant to change. Go with the flow! When in Rome...

Let us know how your job search goes. Do you use workopolis?

When i first responded to this thread i was being nice and i felt sorry for you. However, after reading some of your replies to other members posts i came to realize that you are a whiney little bitch. Fuck, i can see why you were fired..you prob got in shit a few times for screwing up, being lazy, incompetent etc etc and instead of taking it like a man you pissed and moaned about them being so cold and mean. Welcome to the real world...DEAL WITH IT! Now take off your purse and be a man, or put on some lipstick and bend over.

I think HR did exactly what they're trained to do. They're not supposed to engage you in a debate about why you were terminated and whether it's justified or not. It's not about being "nice", it's about good business practice. It sounds like you already knew why you were being terminated. Emails to other workers are best kept short, succinct, neutral, and to the point. Anything else is just ammo for a unjust dismissal lawsuit.

If you think you're being screwed, speak to a lawyer. Some of the responses in this thread show exactly why HR needs to be neutral and impassive - there's a heck of a lot of nutbars out there who might pick a fight or threaten to go get a rifle from the trunk of their car.

From what I've heard about the programming industry, you really need to be careful about thinking a temp job or contract is going to turn into regular employment. It's my understanding that firms increasingly have less interest in hiring full time programmers and would rather contract the work out.

But really, if you messed up during probation then can you really be surprised you didn't get hired? I mean, that's the time you need to shine and impress. As a manager, I wouldn't hire anyone who screwed up during probation. It's just too risky and difficult to get rid of a real screwup later on.

Geeze guys nobody heard of a learning curve?
unfortunately, in todays market (the high tech industry in particular), there is no patience for training and a learning curve and so on...either you know how to do the work or you don't.....
dont let it get to you, enhance your skill set and try to do better at the next job you get....

Big corporations are....

psychopathic sociopaths....

Can't remember where I saw this, but there was a documentary that compared big corporations to sociopaths, and the CEO's that run them to psychopaths...apparantly, all the traits of a sociopath is what is necessary to run a sucessful business.

I love Drunken Masters reponse as well...if you still have your email access, make good(heheheh) use of it....

I had a great boss for four years...but the big boss in the corner office never liked him...so they let him go, and hired two b*tch's to do his job...which they have no clue how to do...BUT...there probably paying them both in total less than what he was making. I basically run things there now, since the two of them put together know less about the business and systems than I do...and I make sure they stay ignorant...all I do is "make nice" every now and then and come and go as I please..

Human Resources....what a joke...there's nothing "human" about them....my company has a MOPP(manual of policies & procedures), but they only follow the rules when it suits them...and pay lip service to any section that actually protects and benefits their employees..

THAT'S MY RANT for Friday!!!!! Time to kick back and smoke a "doob"..

Later, y'all...

Don't piss on a guy right after he has been fired and is down. Your first post wasn't nice and this one is much colder. That is very low to say the least. If you want to talk tough, do it to his face. This is definately a case of the pot calling the kettle black Booty. I talked to you at the SV party. Not only are you a chubby short guy with a ton ( I mean a ton of issues), all you did all night was yap and insult all the party goers behind their backs, calling them names. The King of insecurity you are. You've got issues little guy.

Shinyam, rebuild and get back on the horse. It's tough and I'm sure the financial pressure doesn't help, but do what needs to be done and good luck.

you are reacting rather than being proactive in what got you fired.

next time you get hired ? how are going to tell your potential new employer you got fired from your previous job ? do you have any idea why you got fired ? any clue as to what your old employer is going to say to your new potenital employer because they are going to call them.

you need to self-assess yourself realistically why you got fired and what you are going to do to fix it.

you are probably going to have to go back to school or retrain because as time goes by your skills are diminishing and nothing new to bring to the table.

Nah, I'd recognise that little troll ( refered to by a couple of popular escorts as Stumpy) anywhere. I've been going to terb parties for years and am known under other handles. Either way I could care less. After looking at him we can all feel better about ourselves.

Let's bring this thread back to Shinyam, and advice on his situation.

Hang in there shinyam - sounds like that job was not a good fit for you. The only way to look at this - is as a springboard to a new opportunity! Good Luck!!

I can understand why it would feel harsh and cold to be fired this way. You are got off guard and the email the next day after you asked to say good bye to people wouldn't help the way you felt about the situation. It sucked, plain and simple. No one would like to get fired but this was a little cold. I think it could have been handled a little better.

I hope things look up for you soon. :D

I agree with this lady, some notice would be nice and nothing wrong with saying goodbye to co-workers.Maybe your boss is a litle insecure.Dont feel rejected, you know your a good worker and kind person Take care.

It is hard to know what a boss is thinking when he is firing someone. I have had to fire some people, and I hate doing it, it is the worst part of my job. I feel sorry for them, even when they are idiots and it is their fault. I think that it is wrong to be cold and mean just to protect yourself, they deserve a decent explanation and to be able to say good-bye to their friends, even if it is a risk to the company. I think you are better off to treat people decently too, they are less likely to sue you if they can see your side than if you are just mean to them.

On the other hand, I have met people who enjoy firing and being mean to people, that is just too bad.

Good luck next time Shinyam.
