Firefox HTML Document

I downloaded some pics from a website and it showed up on my computer as "Firefox HTML Document". When I left clicked to open the file. all I got was jibberish(sp), no nice photos. Why is this happening?

Thanks, I didn't try the suggested solutions because I had already retraced my steps using my own computer (I had originally downloaded to a USB key using a borrowed computer) and the pics were automatically saved as JPEG.
