Flash flooding is the second-deadliest weather hazard, after heat waves.

A river rose 20 feet. 230 people evacuated, but many remain unaccounted for. Among them are 20 girls from a campsite, where the owner tried what she could but died among 24 others so far.

Since it happened in a red state, we will be spared from Trump coming to throw toilet paper or patronize the local that they rack up the river bank too much. Need trees and lots of vegetation near these banks, he would say, as long as it's not a fire. As his genius brain would spew out greedy nonsense.

The local authority mentioned they had not received a proper warning, they are flooded all the time, they said... Perhaps if the national weather services had not gone through so major cuts, 20 girls would be alive.

No mention of FEMA in Trump's or Abbot's response so far

This is why The Statue of Liberty must be shipped back to France, and have France pay for it, replacing it with gold sheathed statue of Trump. He has gutted both the NOAA and FEMA, not only did Texas not get a forewarning but the response has been feeble. Like Northern China, Texas is a vast flood plain. Kristie Noem was 100% behind Trump's scheme to eliminate FEMA. The death toll has now risen to 32, Trump and Noem deserve Anthony Kiedis balls on their chins.

trump hates scientists, they keep saying climate change is real, vaccines work and other really awkward things that he just knows are wrong.

And right on cue, local officials are blaming the Weather Service (i.e. know-nothing scientists yakking about fake climate change), as per the NYTimes story. Next up to point the fateful finger at: Democrats, libs, trans meteorologists, George Soros.....And the poor folk swept up by the flood waters will go right on being swept up by the flood of lies that are literally killing them. Flood and plague hasn't done it, so the question remains: What will it take?

51 people died, and 27 missing children.

The worst part is that all relatives, including parents, will continue to vote for Trump. They were born and raised with the democrats being the enemy, exactly like kids raised in many Muslim countries with the West being the enemy of life.

''Warnings came before the disaster
The National Weather Service on Thursday advised of potential flooding and then sent out a series of flash flood warnings in the early hours of Friday before issuing flash flood emergencies — a rare alert notifying of imminent danger.''

WTF is wrong with you people? What makes anyone feel compelled to do a reflexive TDS dance on these dead children and adults?

Briefly, you should know better to trust a New York Times article in the early stages of the tragedy. Never an outlet to miss an opportunity for an inciting headline, they have essentially said they will be biased against Trump. If you actually read the article, the NYT author finally says the County had no aerial warning system in place.

We're being told that cellphone flash flood warnings as advised by the MWS were being sent during the night. Yeah, you know what those are. I get weather warnings in my region on my cellphone. So blame the camp counselors and camp management for not reacting. (You're sleeping next to a large river and you ignore flash flood warnings on your phone?)

The County does not have an aerial warning system in place. Odd, every place I have lived has had one. Of course, I have never lived in a rural area.

Give it a rest. Give it time. Maybe something will blow back on to the National Weather Service. Maybe not.

PS- Reread the NYT article. This is shoddy journalism fueled by innuendo and speculation. It speculates that if Weather Service vacancies had been filled that many of these people would have been saved. The author doesn't actually doesn't tell you what the Weather Service would have done differently.

Defunding NOAA has been part of the project 2025 mandate since day 1.
Because they report accurately on climate change.

Own it.

Is this too factual for you:
The National Weather Service’s San Angelo office, which is responsible for some of the areas hit hardest by Friday’s flooding, was missing a senior hydrologist, staff forecaster and meteorologist in charge, according to Tom Fahy, the legislative director for the National Weather Service Employees Organization, the union that represents Weather Service workers.

The Weather Service’s nearby San Antonio office, which covers other areas hit by the floods, also had significant vacancies, including a warning coordination meteorologist and science officer, Mr. Fahy said. Staff members in those positions are meant to work with local emergency managers to plan for floods, including when and how to warn local residents and help them evacuate.

I worked as a journalist for over 40 years at major NYC and international newspapers, at small dailies in very rural communities, at well known magazines, at book publishers, and even at television networks as a writer. I know shoddy journalism when I read it. Get your eyes checked.
