Going to a football game leads to life altering deformity, that's gotta sting. Gotta think the NFL might change some rules now, most were probably too gooned to realise it.

A dozen amputations at one place though and none at the other? That seems odd. I'm still a bit sceptical of the story

I've been to games in Buffalo and Chicago where it was near close temperatures to that with the wind chill. You need to dress appropriately for the elements. Its clear to me that these people did not do so. You have to suffer a serious case of frostbite to warrant an amputation.

Plus alcohol can drive body heat away too.

I remember skiing down Mt. Tremblant one day in the early eighties(I believe it was the coldest day of the winter). When I got to the bottom of the hill I noticed my earlobe was frozen solid. Surprised I did not get frost bitten.

People never think about about the players on the field in those frigid temperatures with the wind howling and a frozen field. The people in the stands are dressed for the arctic (well the SANE ones are) the players not so much. If one team is on a long offensive drive the defence is out there as well for a long period of time in the elements.
