The Red Star, or Pravda on Lake Ontario would love to see their Liberal buddy Smitherman in. But lets face it, Smitherman is a disaster. Great at being a politician, terrible at keeping track of money or understanding policy. He would be much worse as mayor, buying every special interest off with our money. Ford may not be the greatest choice for mayor, but at this time, he seems to be the best choice of the current crop.
saying Rob Ford is the best choice of the current crop is like saying you would rather have a migraine headache than an absessed tooth

Ain't that the truth.

While Ford does come across as a buffoon you have to laugh and the number of NDP wingnuts that he has sputtering and flapping their gums.
sorry train, but i didnt realize that Rossi and Smitherman were members of the NDP..

Hume does the architechual collumn...
But if you read his previous work..he hates people who live in the "burbs"...You know like Etobicoke and Scarb.
Hume's take on life is a narrow, downtown worker and citizen, who has no kids, bikes to work and lives in a condo.

I have no problem with his type of lifestyle, but he has a real pickle up his ass about how people who live downtown have more culture, and know truly how to run the city....

Ford, of course rings the bells of the Tim Horton Drive-through type of guy, who's idea of culture is The Maple Leafs...and thinks the cappucino set downtown are out of touch with reality...

I'm going to sit back and watch....
hey buds, dont speak for me..i drive thruogh a Timmies 4 or 5times aweek..and ive been following the Leafs for decades...and i cant stomach Rob Ford..please speak for youself..

Ford's a redneck. But the redneck faction of the city deserves its champion too, sometimes. He will be a somewhat effective mayor in the unlikely event that he manages to hold on to his popularity with the people while making the tough decisions. The city's broke. It needs a decisive leader at the moment, and I think the electorate senses that.

I wouldn't say that about Rossi, but Smitherman is part of the "progressive" wing of the Liberals. Before running for office, he used to be chief of staff to Barbara Hall. He may not be officially NDP, but he's certainly NDP-like.

THE FOOTBALL CONTROVERY WILL GO AWAY.

HE MAY HAVE USED CITY ENVELOPES - but lets not forget....HE PAID FOR THEM HIMSELF!!!

HE does not bill anything to the city to run his office!!!

He was investigated and castigated 5 times by the integrity officer.
And his answer, that he'd change the rules.

Sterling behaviour, worthy of trusty with our money?
nope.

I don't think this is a trust issue. If I remember it correctly, his foes on council had him investigated because he was buying stuff without charging it to the taxpayers -- and, thus, wasn't reporting it. And Ford never made a secret of the fact he wasn't spending taxpayers' dollars.

One can debate the merits of a politician spending his own money outside the watchful eyes of the auditors, but I don't think it's a big deal.

It would have been worse if he had tried to expense his trip to Florida, if you ask me.

FORD WILL JUMP IN THE POLLS.

The electorate will see that he bought his own envelopes, and raised some funds for a charity!

Its not like the Domi scandal yeaars ago

The integrity commissioner is a joke. They reprimand Ford and Holyday for not spending enough of the taxpayer money yet let Gino Boy Mammoliti buy a $10K camera and expense it. Where was the integrity commissioner when that moron Paula Fletcher went on her tirade against a taxpayer who came to special meeting for taxpayers? Where was integrity commissioner when Rae spent $12K of taxpayer money on his retirement party? Where was the integrity commissioner all those years when councillors were misappopriating funds from their office slush funds?

We are faced with an interesting choice for mayor...An "everyman" with a big mouth with a few skeletons in his closet from years ago who is fiscally conservative, and has amazing business acumen witnessed by the success of the family label businss...or a liberal career politician who had a five year drug addiction and anger management problems, and who as a MPP wasted a billion dollars with e health and let someone else be a scapecoat.
Some of our best mayors have shot from the "lip". Alan Lamport and Mel Lastman immediately come to mind.
The voters are tired of these fat cat bull shitters. Every time I renew my licence plates, buy a plastic bag. or get stuck in traffic, I'm reminded what Miller and his NDP cronies have cost our city.
I know who I'm voting for...warts and all...

I wouldn't blame Miller for any financial mess the city is in. That blame still falls on Mike Harris with his amalgamation and offloading of services.

Trust me, many of the contracts the city has with its employees are much too rich. Miller said so himself during the outside workers' strike last year.

Not all of the blame should go to Miller, as Lastman was also ineffective in dealing with the unions. But there is definitely a need for City Hall to show some leadership on this front, rather than simply blaming Queen's Park.

Lets see 10 years in the past, numerous elections and at least 3 rounds of contract negotiations 2 of which Miller was in on and the fiscal mess trhe city is in is still Harrisses fault?

Integrity Commissioner slams Ford

Mayoral candidate Rob Ford is in trouble again, this time with Toronto’s integrity commissioner slamming the Etobicoke councillor for “improper use of influence” in soliciting donations for his football charity.

Just tells you how desperate the socialists are becoming as they sense Ford's momentum building. They have their bureacrat issue some trumped up pathetic excuse but the only people who care are the bootlicking NDP voters who already hate Ford. The current regime has more integrity issues than Ford ever will.

Might as well practice the lefty whining since they will have at least four years to whine while Ford runs the city more efficiently.

nope.
But Smitherman would be more trustworthy with our money? I think not.
