I have become off the clock friends with a former retired provider. She has fallen on very hard times. I provide some limited financial help (no strings) but am becoming quickly tapped out.

She lives in a Southern Country. She visits Canada but only as a visitor. She has no immigration status here. She desperately wants to become landed.

Recently she was diagnosed with a debilitating auto-immune disease. She has no health insurance. When in Canada she is treated at a Toronto hospital clinic that specializes in her condition.

She lives in squalor with her extended family but as far as I can tell there is no substantial money coming in. The was a recent family death that left her devastated

When I knew her as an SP I found her to be warm, giving and generous. I am sure that others did a well.

There are websites such as gofundme.com that provide a "charitable" service but there are obvious issues of confidentiality and privacy.

While cynics might criticize me for possibly being duped by a sad but frequent story, I know first hand of the truth of what I am saying.

I would like to facilitate a way to give something back to this wonderful woman and would appreciate any help or suggestions.

It truly seems to be a sad, and yes frequent story. I imagine a significant portion of the SP population, especially those persons visiting Canada from less prosperous countries, experience unimaginable hardships and turmoil. One such lady, who I'm quite fond of, I recently took shopping over Christmas, and helped her get set up with suitable winter clothing, as her attire was far from protective for our winter conditions. It was a rather expensive outing with no strings attached..wish I could help, kudos to you for your thoughtfulness and generosity, however one good deed per year is as far as I can go, otherwise, with all of the various hard luck situations one could readily go broke

The simplest answer is for your friend to resume escorting now and again in Toronto, when she has the energy. Or else you could certainly marry her if you are available.

Fallen on very hard times in a southern country and living in squalor yet has money to come to canada as a visitor?? Doesn't sound right and I can't get motivated to help a foreigner when there are soooo many locals who could use the support

Crowd funding?

I am technologcally challenged and so don't now how but is there a way you could set up a crowd sourced fund thru terb? Even $5 from each TERB member could help.
As for her immigration status.... No Idea. She may have to join the ranks of illegals, of which there are many, I am sure.

Just paid my first income tax installment for this year . Tell her to send her income tax return in early so she could cash in on what I just paid . That's if she paid taxes on what she made while she was working here . You think !!!!

If you truly feel the way you feel. Marry her ! She will get all the help she needs.

I have paid for her air ticket back as she is enrolled in a series of experimental clinical trials at the hospital in Toronto and we did not want her to miss it. She has friends in Toronto who will put her up.

She is not a Nigerian Prince just a poor woman trying to survive. No inheritance. Nothing material in return for helping her.

Is it possible to set up a crowd sourced fund similar to gofundme.com not just for this woman but to help those women who have left the biz but have fallen on hard times?

Moderator please comment.

As an aside, for most of us this is fun and recreation. For providers, it is often a sole source of survival...not always but sometimes. If a fund were opened on TERB for those in genuine need would you contribute, even a token amount?

Just wondering: if she's not an Ontario resident, how can she manage to get enough money to pay for her treatment?

As I said in my first post " I provide some limited financial help (no strings) but am becoming quickly tapped out". That's why I have posted this.

More then 1400 people have viewed this string of posts. If each viewer contributed $10 it would have a huge impact on this woman's life. Maybe I will try to set up something on line or, as I have suggested, is this something that TERB might be able to set up.

So far there are no comments from the women who subscribe to this board and in particular nothing yet from "Chloe" who is the dominant advice giver and all round wonderful person.
