Looking at the video clip it appears that the French police were armed with only pea shooter handguns, would they have been able to kill the engine block if they had heavier weaponry?
I'm actually surprised only about 80 people got killed.

Considering how jammed the streets were, I'm surprised he was only able to drive few KMs before getting shot by cops. Someone using a truck to battering ram people should theoretically be able to floor it and mow down tons of people and drive off for 10 KM+ before cops could react with patrol cars.

Them's fightin' words.

I don't dismiss the possibility of him being a radical Islamist but at least from early reports there wasn't any evidence to differentiate him from any other psycho-killer other than his name.
Yep, that's got to be the ultimate insult.

Small, it happened one month after Abu Mohammed made his plea back in 2014.

A Canadian jihadist named Martin Couture-Rouleau waited in his CAR near a Tim's until
two Canadian Armed Forces officers stepped out of a Service Canada office and drove his CAR over them, killing one.

Couture-Rouleau had been yearning for martyrdom for months. As he sped off, he called 911 to make sure everyone knew he was “acting in the name of Allah.

True but when is the next one coming. The last one didn't make a big enough splash. How will Canadians react when there are dozens of bodies, perhaps family members among them, and dozens more torn to shreds with lifelong injuries.

The raw photos from the Nice terrorist attack sickened me and made me angry. How can such an evil POS do that to innocent people...children in strollers?!?!

We need violence of action against these evil doers. Rip them out from the roots and destroy them. They sense weakness and act upon it.

Canadians/Americans et al need to realize that in today's world as soon as you walk out your front door you are effectively on the BATTLEFIELD!

No, because I'm not the one accused of mowing down 84+ men, women and kids
You're missing the point. I chimed with basketcase's post in response to your statement:
And you have no evidence he was NOT a radical muslim...
Ever heard of "burden of proof"?
Of course bc could not prove that the psychopath was NOT a radical, anymore than you or I could prove that we're NOT criminals.

This article was written 5 years before the recent 3 mass casualty attacks in France.

"In the immediate aftermath of September 11th, the reaction of the French media was one of passionate empathy. The September 12th headline of Le Monde reads simply “Nous sommes tous Américains” (We are all Americans).1 Yet as early as September 13th, Le Monde began broaching criticism of American policy and scrutinizing the American response. Close readings of this rapidly changing stance reveal French resistance to a dominant US narrative of rigid moral dichotomy. On the whole, the opinions that appeared in Le Monde in the week following 9/11 trace a trajectory from cautious optimism to outright disapproval."

Three relatives of the nice terrorist were radical Islamists that spent time in jail in Tunisia . Police sources said two of them were arrested in 2008 for training with weapons in the mountains.
After release, one, who we think is extremely dangerous, went to Syria, and we are checking if one was in Nice, but he definitely flew to Europe from Tunisia. The third man usually lives here but we haven’t traced him.’

Does a Muslim who drinks, eats pork and does drugs cease being a Muslim?
Maybe it's the Canadian in me but I thought we had the right to define our own religious standing. My roots are mainly Anglican but that doesn't mean I am. You might have heard of terms such as nonreligious, agnostic, atheist, or just don't give a shit?

Nice assailant reportedly texted for ‘more weapons’ before truck attack

The text message, investigators said, was sent to one of the four men arrested in connection with the attack on Saturday

NICE, FRANCE—Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, the man behind last week’s attack in Nice in which 84 people were killed, sent a text message before the attack demanding “more weapons,” French media reported Sunday, citing investigators.

The text message, investigators said, was sent to one of the four men arrested in connection with the attack on Saturday.

Bouhlel on Thursday drove a delivery truck through crowds of people along Nice’s main promenade as a fireworks display to celebrate Bastille Day was ending. He used a pistol to shoot into the crowd before he was killed by police.

In addition to the four arrests on Saturday, a man and a woman were arrested Sunday, French news agency AFP reported citing sources from the French Justice Ministry.

The attacker’s ex-wife was released Sunday after being arrested Friday.

Among the information to come to light is that Bouhlel had scouted the crime scene on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the attack.

And according news reports, the attacker had made efforts to settle his affairs and provide for his relatives.

French weekly Journal du Dimanche sited investigators as saying Bouhlel emptied his bank account, sold his car and told friends about his radicalization.

Reports published in the name of two Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) media outlets said Bouhlel was one of the group’s “soldiers,” although they did not say whether there he had co-ordinated his plan with the group.

The claims were published on social media channels in the name of Islamic State’s Aamaq news agency and in an online audio file of the daily news bulletin from the group’s al-Bayan radio. They could not be authenticated.

I think in Islam you are born or convert to Muslim, you die a Muslim. Maybe the Muslim experts on the Board can jump in to clarify.

Personally, I thought about becoming a Sikh and wearing a turban. Does that make me a Sikh?

I think in the Western World we have a choice to define things ourself.

And if you want to call yourself a Sikh then go ahead. Other Sikhs may not accept you but it will go on your census form.

News continues to come out, doesn't sound he was that destitute, he sent $110.000 to his family in Tunisia.

The truck driver, who carried out an attack on the French city of Nice, sent around $110,000 to his family in Tunisia shortly before July 14, when the massacre took place, media reported on Sunday.

The investigation found that the person behind the attack was 31-year-old resident of Nice of Tunisian origins Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.

"Mohamed sent the family 240,000 Tunisian Dinars in the last few days. He used to send us small sums of money regularly like most Tunisians working abroad. But then he sent us all that money, it was fortune," Bouhlel's brother Jaber told The Daily Mail.

He also said that the money were sent illegally, Mohammed Bouhlel gave cash to people returning to Tunisia and asked them to transfer the money to his relatives.

Earlier in the day, Europe 1 broadcaster reported that Bouhlel carefully planned his attack. On July 12-13, he went to the Promenade des Anglais, where the attack was later carried out. The video from CCTV cameras showed him exploring the area.
On Thursday night, a truck rammed into a large crowd that was celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. At least 84 people, including children, were killed and dozens of others were injured.

On Saturday, media reported that Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Wonder how France will react now. 3 mass casualty attacks in 18 months.

In the weeks and months after 9/11 I thought the French were rather smug.

They will do nothing. They have invited the Trojan Horse into their country, and now they're stuck with it (as is the rest of Europe)

Europe is in an unstoppable down hill slide into hell.

One can only hope that WHEN something like this happens in Canada, lot stronger measures are taken, but considering out present government, we are going to be in trouble.
