You would think the various browser powers that be would want this corrected but strangest of all is that Google itself does not seem to have put forth a fix.

I have been struck by a maddeneing trojan that redirects the browser to a number of various sites once a Google search has been performed... all or most links will redirect to these annoying sites.

Trust me when I say I have searched many a tech forum and performed and reporformed many a scan - dowloading several different scanners to do so - in order to purge this nuisance to no avail.

HELP!!!

might be best to list what you have tried.

i suggest antivir /malwarebytes and spybot and hope one of the scans comes up with a report of the trojan .

now very important if you do get the name of it . you need to google the name of the virus and look for removal options as well as what registry settings it affects.

I have both and this bastard trojan still made it through. It actually infected Spybot and 4 other programs.

On top of everything else... I also use Avast. BTW... everything was up to date and daily scans with both. Avast finally got rid of it... but it was loaded in the memory and needed a reboot scan/clean.

I use Google... but I don't know if this is how it made it through. It all started by a pop up box asking about wanting to change my web browser. Never clicked on anything by "x" to get the hell out of there.

I've run across some malware which embeds itself pretty deep in the registry.

First, what browser are you using? You should only ever use Internet Explorer to download the latest patches from Microsoft (the next batch will be released next Tuesday afternoon). Otherwise, use Firefox, Opera, or another similar.

How comfortable are you working in the registry? You might want to check out programs in the system start, and settings in your browser. Careful, though, as there are some legitimate programs which can look questionable, and some malware which can look legit. It's not for amateurs to manipulate.

Primary browser is now FF. Has been for some time. Sounds like C has had this little beast running rampant as well. Not very comfortabe in the registry myself... The issue affects both FF and IE. I have run the free spyware removal programsand several other removal tools such as AdAware, MaleWare Bytes, Avenger, Trojan Remover, Spybot and McAfee all in full scan modes. The programs in full scan will finish upon reboot... Still plagued. I do not experience this other than from a Google search where after the search is run you click on a search result and then are redirected to a number of possible bogus sites that look like combo search/ad sites which I promptly close.

There were some recent news stories about Google hijacks. Here is a link to one such story: but I have not yet come across any warning that looks like the ones represented in this piece:

http://www.secalgarynews.com/homepage/1-million-plus-web-sites-poisoned-by-cyber-criminals/

This thing is Google specific and yet Google itself seems to be silent on the issues that affect its browser security... I find this very odd.

Windows 7 uses 'Bing' by default rather than Google.
Is there any advantage to Bing?

This has nothing to do with Google and is all about your computer being compromised by a trojan/malware/spyware/etc. But you already knew that.

Are you sure that you're running full scans of the registry and harddrive(s)? I use SuperAntiSpyware myself, but have already once been infected by a trojan that disabled my ethernet connection and shutting down my antivirus app upon opening it.

The only thing you can really do is keep trying an up-to-date antivirus app that can actually find what you're infected with and clean it out.
