You're kidding me right? McDonalds coffee is FAR better than Tim Hortons, or Coffee Time. Their food is shit, but the coffee is great.

I'm with A1. The high quality of McDonalds coffee is one of the best kept open secrets in the take-out coffee world. I'd love to set up a blind taste test for some of these robot Tim Horton supporters.
Joy, I'm surprised by your statement. Try another cup, sometiime. You are a scientist after all.

MCDONALDS OPENS MCCAFE IN CANADA

Fast food moves upscale as the mega foodservice chain opens first stand-alone cafe in Montreal
Canadian Restaurant (trade magazine), Fall 2001

McDonalds is vying for a share of the gourmet coffee coffee shop pie with the opening of the first stand-alone McCafe in (Longueuil) Montreal, Quebec in mid August. This follows the first testing of McCafe products at a restaurant in Burlington, Ontario McDonald's location in May and the first full market test of its "integrated front counter service model" McCafe in London, Ontario in August. The McCafe menu available throughout the day, offers customers a variety of choices such as the "Cafe Blend" coffee brewed from 100 per cent Arabica beans -a rich, dark roast regular and decaffeinated, as well as specially blended espresso, cafe latte, cappuccino, a selection of teas, iced cappuccino and frothy blends including Mocha, MacIntosh Toffee and French Vanilla. Also on the plate is a selection of fresh baked goods including muffins, cookies, Cinnamon pull-aparts, Tiger brownies, No-nut brownies, Wildberry Macaroon bars, date squares, butter tarts and Triple chocolate Fudge Cake. Tins of the ground Cafe Blend can also be purchased in regular and decaffeinated.

Today's McDonald's customer is in a hurry, yet seeking a unique and enjoyable coffee experience," says Rem Langan, Vice President of Marketing, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited.

Many of the stand-alone cafes like the one in Montreal feature fine china with stainless steel flatware for dine-in customers. All
menu items are also available for take out. The ambiance is designed for comfort, which includes leather couches, chairs and bistro- style tables, with vintage French posters, lace curtains and mahogany and granite accents. A McCafe concept for (Maple Ridge) Vancouver, B.C. in 2002 will feature separate service, in- restaurant cafe kiosks.

Additional McCafe trials will take place in New Brunswick and P.E.I. later this year. The corporation will be watching customer reaction to the McCafe concept closely to determine it's potential in North America. Although the McCafe is new to this side of the ocean, its idea has been embraced successfully overseas for the last eight years.

The concept was first introduced in Australia in 1993 and has evolved into a successful enterprise, which includes countries such as Brazil, Italy, France, New Zealand and Argentina, with some 300 McCafes worldwide. McDonald's introduction of McCafe into Canada makes it the15th country to debut the concept. Each county has adopted a unique variation of McCafe to best suit their needs. All McCafes are within or adjacent to existing full-service, traditional McDonald's restaurants.

McDonald's is the largest foodservice company in the world. McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited and its Canadian franchisees own and operate more than 1,170 restaurants and employ more than 75,000 Canadians coast to coast. Over 70 per cent of McDonald's Canadian restaurants are locally owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs.

I have to agree with a1 player, to me tim hortons tastes very weak, not very good in my opinion. There was a survey done in a couple of magazines, mcleans was one of them, Mcdonalds coffee beat out tim hortons.

From what I understand, McDonald's changed their coffee recently to a premium blend. Lots of people who used to hate it now say that it's better than Timmy's. I imagine the promotion is to get people to notice how much better their coffee is now.

I'm not a big fan of the Cappuccinos. I like a strong black coffee throughout the day, and start off every morning with a full mug of Espresso. I do hope though that they can make a good cup of 'regular' coffee.

I tried their free "Premium" coffee today.

I was surprised at how good it tasted.
Now of course it was not as good as Tim horton's,
but much better than Druxy's, Burger King and Harvey's.

Macdonalds coffee is quite good. They have changed the coffee. I would say it is as good or better than Tim Hortons. I use to be able to tell this joke when talking about Macdonalds coffee:

***********

The Coffee broker was waiting for his usual costomers to make their quarterly coffee bean purchases. As usual comming up the road was the buyer from Starbucks. This buyer took the best of the beans. Next coming up the road was the Maxwell House buyer, then one by one all of the brokers beans were bought. All that was left was crumbs and the worst looking beans. The broker looked down the road and the buyer for Macdonalds was driving up.

**********

I guess I will have to retire that one. :)

McDonalds coffee rules.....money for value.
Timmy's....a has been
Starbucks.....a tell-tell sign of the damage inflicted by global credit crunch, unless you used to be undergrads who got addicted at Starbucks located at the campus a decade ago.

BTW, kudos to those savvy speculators/traders who buy long on MCD, while simultaneously sell short SBUX for the same amount. An almost perfect pair trade :)

And yes you get decent yields on MCD dividends too....better than 30 years Uncle Sam IOUs

McDonald's changed their coffee like over a year ago. In blind taste tests done by The Toronto Star, McDonald's comes in either #1 or #2 among all the chains.

Anyone who actually likes Tim Horton's coffee should not be allowed to comment on the quality of coffee.

Yes, I'm a coffee snob. I have my own espresso maker at home, and I only drink coffee from any of the coffee/fast food chain if there are no other options around and I badly need a shot of coffee. As far as brewed coffee goes, McDonald's if by far the best quality/price option.

i'll take the snobbery 1 further...how much did you spend on your Espresso Machine?...if your a snob among snobs...you'll have to spend more than $1200 between machine and grinder to make it worth while. You have to grind as you need it..as you grate cheese for pasta as needed. If ya bought it from StarF#$k's their machines are shit..was repairing one today for a friend.
I am embarrassed to say how much i have $$$ in Italian coffee related machinery...its beyond fanaticism. I'm in the process of making my own bean roaster...Nuts!?...yeah!..Guilty Me

Hehe. I'm a snob, but a poor one!

I got the espresso machine as a gift, so I'm not sure of the price (and never bothered to look for it), but my guess would be around $800 at the time (Definitely not a Starbuck one. Starbuck is Evil). I'm very happy about it. The steamer attached to it isn't really great, but I don't really care since I only drink espresso.

I'm not as nuts/snob as you, and I can even settle for already grinded coffee for those days that I'm too lazy/not awake enough to grind my own coffee. I find that Lavazza coffee is a good compromise for decent coffee at a decent prize.
