Whjat kind of businees rational is that?

tallmonster said:
lol what kind of business rational is that, I don't think you have any grounding in global economics. Importing slave made goods is not a sustainable model in society based on consuming manufactured goods.. The only ones that justify it are the company spin doctors. that is why you are trained to think linearly about business and not care about the future of North American manufacturing or North America as a wholepeople are programed not to believe in their countries anymore.manufacturing was born here. The US was the leader in technology and imports in the world, back in the day. Now it is nothing but Walmart jobs
Its called REALITY.Face it.

people say the same thing about Japanese cars in the 80's. Chinese cars may not be as good initially, but there's no reason to think they can't become as good. cars are made by machines now, not much labor is involved.

heck, the Ford Mustang since 2005 is designed by a guy from Vietnam.

One of the interesting points I've heard about Chinese cars is the idea of patents. According to this article, China's view of ownership of ideas is essentially non-existant and many of their vehicles have been developed using reverse engineering. That patent infringement might create lagal barriers for selling their cars in countries that follow patent laws.

I will note that the article I read was a couple years ago so I don't know if there has been a legal resolution or if China has found a way around this.

I will be waiting though for them to prove their reliability before buying one. Old Hyundai Pony bad, new Hyundai Sonata good.

Yep, most people just have no sense of history

Replace "chinese" w/ "japanese" and date this post in the sixties. Wrong then, wrong now. It's only a matter of time, bro', the future comes to us all.
Well said Oldjones. Hat off to your insight. It's depressing to see, that after more than a decade of post industrial and globalization evolution, so many people are still buried in such outdated perspectives. But then seeing how our political leaders fail so abjectly to grasp this concept and fail to re-position our systems in the new economy, perhaps this should come as no surprise.

both China and India are producing cars that will retail for around 3000.00 in North America. Seeing as how that is less than the cost of materials in Canada something has to be left out. You can do the math.

Importers have made the same mistake with every generation of cars imported to North America.

Volkswagon in the 50's Toyota in the 60"s, Honda in the 70"s, Lada Skoda etc.

The first generation of cars came over very cheap and in their home country very reliable. And then came salt. Every one of those first generation rides basically rusted off the frame and the manufacturer took a hit for shitty cars. The next generation was built better but had to overcome the bad press previously aquired. Toyota,Honda Datsun( Dating Myself), the Germans got it done. None of those manufacturers had a value for money problem China does. If they actually get cars that pass emmission and saftey standards they will still have to get them past the CAW/UAW picket lines on the docks.

Good Luck with that
