They'll get out within 3 years for good behaviour and on with their life. I agree they should have got more, but I think their personal lives and health took a hit.
I heard they can be out in as little as 1 to 2 years (they get credit for pre-trial custody or something like that)

I don't believe they were in custody, they were out on bail.

Okay, but Drabinsky can be out in as little as 14 months which is a total joke!!

See here: http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/08/06/does-drabinskys-sentence-send-the-intended-signal/
No one expects the two will serve out their full sentences. In Canada, first-time offenders charged with non-violent crimes are eligible for parole after one-sixth of their sentence is served. That means Drabinsky could serve 14 months, Gottlieb one year. When—and if—they’ll get to jail is another matter. They’re now free on bail awaiting their appeal, which could take years

Hiring Greenspan is pretty much broadcasting your guilt.

And sealing your fate. That windbag hasn't won much for many years and is long past his best before date.

Good on the dirtbags who hire him!

I think you are wrong in this case. Most of Greenspan's clients ARE guilty. They hire him in the hope of getting reduced time.

I actually hired him because my brother got in trouble with a woman. My brother was an idiot to get involved with her in the first place. She made a lot of false accusations and the cop (the scum bag) that she used had him thrown in jail for assault. I think he was in on it too. She even had a girlfriend as a "witness". She was trying to scam him for a house. You should have heard the accusations the crown used when he was arraigned. I could not get him out that day. Even the other lawyers for the other accused in the court could not believe that he could not get released. They mentioned that people with much more serious charges get out. He got thrown in the west detention centre for 2 weeks before we could get bail. The judge himself was an alcoholic. You could tell by the color of his nose.

I never met the woman before but you should have seen her face the day she came into court. Her jaw dropped when she saw three lawyers at our table. It was priceless. You pay for his services because his reputation precedes him. The crown never even prepared for the case. At the end of the day we went to trial and Greenspan exposed her for what she was. She was on the stand for the entire day and the story unfolded. He even had her running out of the courtroom crying. She was getting cues all day from her boyfriend in the gallery on how to answer questions. The judge ignored her for the entire day and the trial was to have been continued. The so called girlfriend witness never even made it to the stand. Next day the crown dropped the charges. The cop apologized and played bagman afterwards ferrying around getting the release papers done. We should have sued the Toronto Police Services but we did not.

I do have to say though that it was a stressful time in my life with my relationship with my brother and it has not healed

The fact that they got convicted in a business/investor fraud is unusual in the first place in Canada.

As for the 14/16 month jail time --- that's not unusual in a non violent first time offense. Anyone remember Harold Ballard and his theft from Maple Leaf Gardens Corp. I think he spent even less time in jail.
