For his amazing resume, no one is more deserving of an Oscar than Gary Oldman. Name another actor that can master the subtleties of George Smiley (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) yet still pull of a scene like the one below.

Romeo is Bleeding: Gary Oldman vs Lena Olin.

Gary is a corrupt detective assigned to be Olin's bodyguard. He's looking for a big score by delivering the hit-woman turned informant to the mob.

Not really.

It's a very intricate film. With a complex lead character that only great masters like Gary Oldman and Alec Guinness can pull off.

I'm disappointed that people didn't like TTSS but I can understand it. The book is a very dense read, it almost impossible to know what to leave out for a two hour film. So much of the plot was interconnected. I admire Director Tomas Alfredson for not playing it safe even though he knew it would have a sparse box-office.

At the time I couldn't wait to watch Gary and Lena Olin work together. She had become the sexiest woman in the world as part of the love triangle (with Daniel Day Lewis and Juliette Binoche) in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Romeo is Bleeding didn't disappoint.

Ahhh Insidious Von, you are a genius.

Gary Oldman is my favourite actor and perhaps an underrated one. He delivers any character with intense precision. I could've sworn he was Lee Harvey Oswald in Oliver Stone's JFK, but he of course had better roles (like that crooked cop in The Professional, or as Beethoven in Immortal Beloved).

Thank you for posting this my friend. I will see TTSS.

P.S. To any of you SC regulars, I knew a dancer who would kill for Gary Oldman but I can't bloody remember who it was.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was great. Yes, not paced like a Hollywood blockbuster. But worth watching, and worth paying attention to. I hope they make more Smiley movies.

You know what happened a week ago I went ot the AMC thirty bought a ticket and found myself completely alone in the theatre.

Movie was so slowly paced I started playing with my phone before you knew it I was looking for schedules at spas.

I guess I was expecting bourne, bond or tom clancy. I'm not familiar with Le Carre's work so it was a case of different expectations.

I just saw that it got good rating but didn't read the reviews. Cardinal mistake. :)

But to be honest I can more than appreciate slow dull movies. The Straight Story by David Lynch is amazing even though it is a very low key movie.

Gary Oldman is such a force that his co-stars tend to go along for the ride. That is why I consider Romeo is Bleeding to be his best work, Lena Olin pushed his buttons like no other actor has since.

Why does JG owe her career to Lena Olin? Did Lena play Nikita or something? (Sorry I didn't know about this movie or Lena Olin).

Jennifer Garner wasn't a very good actor when she started out but she was more than willing to learn. She got lucky when they cast Lena Olin to play her mother in Alias. If you watch what JG does there is a lot of Lena going on.
