I don’t know about the rest but for me it could work and I could charge it completely off solar based on my needs. I drive about 400 km per week.

Solar panels are cheep now days and can probably find deals of battery banks. You don’t need to use solar city for it or whatever it’s called now.


Solar and wind power are so unreliable.
But good luck with that.

How will the energy to charge all the car batteries be generated
That's the equivalent of asking about the energy required to transport crude to the refineries, the energy to refine the crude and the energy required to transport the gas to the gas stations.

tankful of gasoline is insignificant compared with the amount of energy
needed to carry a 500 kg Tesla battery around.

I was on the road around 7:30 last evening. There was no lineup at all so I topped up. Whoever thought that $1.56 per litre would look like a good price?
I live just north of Montreal and am relieved when it's only $1.63 per liter.
How twisted is that?
I was kinda loving the first few months of the pandemic in 2020 when gas in Quebec and Ontario was around a dollar a liter!
Hadn't seen that in like 20 years.
Remember when we were approaching Y2K and people were complaining that gas was going to hit a whole dollar!?
In the late 90's it was like 70 cents a liter.
Time flies.

The Kona is 20K more for the EV vs ICE. I can pick up 800 bucks of dividends plus capital gains on that. Unless I was to do a metric butt ton of driving it would never pay off.
If I was to do a metric butt ton of driving, based on every long distance Tesla video I've seen I'd have to replace the battery before the car wears out, that's another 20K.

I have no problem with EVs but they just are not there yet. An Austrialian guy came to the same conclusions except without using lost income.

Never mind the range isn't the range because as I understand it, if you wish to max out your battery you should keep it in the 20 to 80% range, winters can lop 25% off the top and there is degradation.
Whenever I see someone with a Tesla I don't know if I should laugh at the driver or look down on him as some sort of signal virtue twat.

Nope. It makes no sense to analyze just one part of the whole equation between electric and gas powered vehicles. It is multi multi factorial.

Come back to me when you've analyzed and compared every factor. And I mean every single factor from start to finish.

I'd be shocked if it hasn't already been done by people in the gas/oil industry in an effort to hopefully justify that we should keep using gas. For some reason I haven't seen any big headlines exposing the fallacy of this whole movement to electric. It truly would be huge news and widely known. Any NYT headlines?

Cherry picking is useless and a distraction.
