Yea, same old shit.... the consumer is once again being raked over the coals and f**ked in the ass. Gas prices will jump 13 cents at midnight even though the price of a barrel of crude dropped by another 78 cents today.

This is absolute bullshit and should not be allowed. Let me guess......fears of Hurricane Ivan hurting the oil rigs in the Gulf. Its price fixing and a definite case of price gouging!!!!

This should be a major election issue. I know Canada can't dictate the price of Oil/gas since we are one of the smaller players, but there should be legislation that is put into effect that prevents this type of price fixing.

We are not talking about the fact that prices may raise temporarily due to the affect that Ivan had on the amount of oil available (supply and demand). We are talking about the gas that is in the tanks of each and every gas station in our towns, cities, on the highways and across the Country. Definitely PRICE GOUGING.

The price of gasoline spike on the wholesale market because of fear of damage to refineries in Texas, from Hurricane Ike.. If you don't like it.. don't buy it!
Nothing has happened yet and it may not.

If we don't like it.. don't buy it, we're not talking about buying Schneider's versus Maple Leaf ham slices, we speaking of something we all depend on to get from home to work, gasoline. Its speculation..... are the Oil companies going to offer a rebate if Ike fizzles out or changes direction.

As I indicated, if Ike results in a shortage, then I can understand seeing a brief increase but what they are doing is wrong, especially when the price of oil is barely over a $100 a barrel after plateauing at close to $150 a barrel earlier this summer.

What is your connection, who is your daddy, what Oil company do you represent??

There is a disconnect between how fast prices jump in relation to bad news vs how they (fail to) come down when the price of oil plunges.

somewhat related but not really...
On my one visit to Toronto way a few months ago I came across this thing you call the 407ETR. I was in a hurry and didn't think much of it. Then I got the bill for it!!! Yikes.

Hey, no problem. I have lots of oil stock. I'm laughing all the way to the bank. You people should stop your whining. Its called capitalism, free trade and a continental oil policy. You don't like it, vote for a party that will actually do something about our dependence on oil. Vote Green or NDP.

Happy to see the front page of the star online had an article on the dollar at a 13 month low because of low oil prices and an article about gas prices spiking.

Having read a number of economic pieces on gas prices I have come to a conclusion though. Gas is expensive because we're willing to pay for it (and we will continue to because there is not enough incentive not to).

You are paying what you pay at the pump in part due to pricks like this asshole who are looking for free money without earning it by actually contributing something to society called work.

Don't whine if your little portfolio crashes either Questor.

I hope it does.

This first part I agree with. Buy Oil stocks rather than whine about gas prices.

The second part I do not agree with.
The NDP or Green Party would severely screw the economy up and they would be powerless to change our dependence on oil. Its idealist, however very impractical

Just drove home from an expensive dinner. Saw every gas station lined up many cars deep. Man I feel sorry for the poor slobs living paycheque to paycheque and having to waste their time trying to save 5 bucks.
Good luck.

I was just out and wondered why there was a line of cars stretching nearly from one light to the corner. People lining up to buy gas as it turns out.

Now I get the concept of wanting to save a few bucks but I did some quick math. My tank's capacity is 60 litres so assuming I literally push it into the stationdue to it being bone dry I will save around $7.20 if I were to wait in line for what appears to be a 45 minute wait.

Now I actually saw some of these people walking into the gas station, (Petro Canada), and coming out with coffee and snacks for their wait so these people figure that 45 minutes of time is worth saving maybe $10 minus maybe $4 for snacks?

Is it me or unless you are buying tanks of gas for future use does this make any sense?

Then keep on voting Lib and Con. Its worked real well so far. Just as long as you don't whine about what you get. Oh, btw, don't look now, but Ontario already has a screwed up economy. Why do you think we are having an election? Before it gets even worse and people figure out how stupid they've been voting in the current government. Full steam ahead with the oil sands. Let's dig an open pit mine the size of the state of Florida. Those guys are geniuses.

The solution to a lack of competition would be to do what Pennsylvania does: forbid the oil companies from owning gas stations. In Penn, gas prices actually vary due to real competition at the wholesale level....but we're in 'superior' Canada, so we'll just keep taking it in the ass like we always do.

I was one of those out filling up and so was the SO. Got both of the cars filled up with nary a wait.

The long lineups started after we left.

And Questor, I will be voting Conservative again. I like Stephen Harper and what the Conservative Party is doing for the country. I hope they get a majority this time and actually get some work done, rather than be stonewalled by the other parties (including the wimpy one in red that just abstains rather than taking a stand). I was born a liberal, but will die a Conservative.

What did Winston Churchill say? Something like: If a person under 30 votes Conservative, he/she lacks compassion. If a person votes otherwise over 30 is an idiot!

People keep saying to boycott a certain gas company so that they will lower their price, we all know that is not going to happen, but the one thing that we can do is STOP buying coffee's and donuts and junk food at the gas stations !!! Imagine if no one bought anything at the gas stations !!! It might not do alot but it would fuck them up a bit !!! PEOPLE PLEASE STOP BUYING YOUR GROCERIES AT THE GAS STATION !!!!
