Well, if you had the oppurtunity to increase your profits by 300% without hurting your client base, wouldn't you?

I'm a cabinet maker and if all of a sudden people started offerring me $200.00 an hour instead of 30, don't you think I'd take it? Especially when after the glut everyone would STILL have to come back to me for work?

People are just dumb...dumdedumdum DUMdeedumdeedum

That "Diesel" gas is always less expensive than regular gas at the local gas station. I think I'm going to start putting that in my minivan.

Just saw this thread

I was up in the Sheppard and Warden area last night shortly after 10pm, these are some of the prices I saw as I started to drive north on Vic Park towards Steeles and then headed west, the line ups into the gas stations were very long:

I saw the following prices at different places:

96.8
99.1
101.3
104.3
134.6 - Sunoco near Vic Park and Gordon Baker !!!

How can a stretch of 10 minutes of driving produce an almost 40 cent range in prices ?

I am interested to see what the weekend brings. Haven't headed out today but luckily I filled my tank a couple of days ago at 96.0.

VBB

You're damn right Chris, the ONLY reason the prices went up at all is because of all the insane people DRIVING the price up.

It is like an auction: if only 1 person bids on an item it will sell cheap (unless it has a reserve bid) If 20 people just positively gotta i'm gonna die without it bid, it will go very high.

THAT is what happened to gas prices....Friggin idiots were willing to pay 1.34 per litre so they paid that.....for no goddamn reason other than they listened to, and spread rumors...

BTW I am selling gas for $22.42 a litre, I'll even deliver it to your car....somewhere somehow there is someone stupid enough to take me up on the offer....

Did you guys know you can run a diesel car on Canola oil?????
No really!!!QUOTE]

I've head that the diesel engine was originally designed to be run on waste oil from retaurants, but at that time diesel oil was a waste by product from refining gasoline and was cheaper than the cost of collecting the waste oil from restaurants.

There was an article about a sail boat manufacture configuring their engines to run on peanut oil

Don't you realize that everytime you repeat the rumour you give the oil companies that much more incentive to raise the prices?
Guess that's another myth busted... prices are still 1.04 after all those rumours and last night's panic buying.

Freeze The Gas Prices For Domestic Consumers

The Govt. should immediately freeze the Gas Prices for Domestic Consumers i mean the owners of private cars, as they are the most affected, or the Govt. should immediately annouce the Gas Surcharge to be paid to the permanent full-time employees till Gas Prices come to its normal stage of 0.75 cents per litre.
The federal govt. should act immediately before its too late, now the Gas Prices have really ruined us and we cannot take any further increase in wake of American Hurricanes, as we already pay heavy double Taxes by staying over here.

What about oil companies??

We should be holding the oil companies and OPEC to blame for the profiteering that is going on. The world still has plenty of oil reserves to sustain us for a long time to come. They have more than enough profits to set up more refineries despite the increased demand. The governments should take a higher stand against these companies to bring the prices down to a respectable level.

I laugh when people blame it on the increase of SUV's and large vehicles. I bet that if everyone today( in the world) bought a Smart Car that oil companies would shut down many refineries because of the over production of crude since less demand. After, I wouldn't be surprised if they charged gas at $5 - $10/litre in order to sustain the current profits they have now.

I also bet that if there was another type of fuel source, gas prices would magically come down as now there is competition for these oil company bastards. Once the hydrogen fuel cell is fully developed and implemented as a regular fuel source alternative, these oil companies will not be gouging us like they currently are. The government should heavily subsidize the research and develpoment of the hydrogen fuel cell. I don't mind paying taxes to subsidize this research, if in the end, it regulates fuel prices. You only get the cheapest price for a good, when there are alot of competitors for consumers to purchase from.

Sorry for the long rant, just venting

Um...actually, no. Although the short-term increases are weather-related, long-term you should get used to higher fuel prices. Some day you'll look back and reminisce about buck-a-litre fuel.

30% of US oil consumption is used in transportation - it's a significant factor.

Everybody in the world? Oil companies would be laughing all the way to the bank. Private vehicle ownership is very much a first-world luxury.

Hydrogen isn't a fuel so much as it is an energy carrier. Terrestrial elemental hydrogen is virtually non-existent, so the hydrogen to run "green" cars will come either from electrolysis (read: nuclear) or...wait for it...reformation of hydrocarbons.
