This hurts..Not gonna lie...One of the most honest people I've ever had the pleasure of listening to in the sports realm.

Has to be right up there with the most respected athletes of all time.

Of the Ali fight in Zaire...He claimed Ali did the rope a dope and he was the dope, lol.

And there was that grill..He said he made more money off it than he did his entire boxing career.

He will be missed but never forgotten.

RIP
George Plimpton was talking about him in some long ago documentary. He remarked on how the defeat by Ali became the making of him in a way. Complete change in persona from that of a threatening menace to a benign good - humored guy.
Seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Called all his sons George I believe.

I'm so sad to hear this news. Of all of Boxing Royalty, I admired George Foreman the most. Not only was there George Foreman the boxer we all knew and probably remember from our youth, there was George Foreman the philanthropist. The guy never stopped helping out kids who needed a break. He gave his time, his celebrity and his money. He was gifted with charisma and a smile and a genuine decency and now he's gone.

I remember watching the documentary, "When We Were Kings" about the Rumble in the Jungle. Brilliant doc if you ever get the chance to catch it. But in that movie, the locals got caught up in the spectacle of the fight and they all knew Mohammed Ali and they would always chant, "Ali Boomba Yay" which translated as "Ali Kill Him." Ali himself thought it was funny and started taunting Foreman in the lead up to the fight.

Foreman got wind of it and it disturbed him and he said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "I've heard the people cheering for Ali to kill me. I don't want to kill anyone. That's not what George Foreman is all about."

I never forgot that and it is a wonderful metaphor for the man that George Foreman was and what he stood for.

Considering he boxed in a real shady and greasy era, I don`t recall ever seeing anything bad. No crazy behavior or scandals, that says a helluva lot about his character. And I have three of his grills. :)

Great boxer, for some reason we don't see these type of boxers anymore, like Ali, Frazier.

They sold millions of the Foreman grills, after a while you see them at garage sales or at Goodwill. I don't think people liked them much. I have a small one I used a few times, its still sitting in the kitchen cupboard.

Truly not just a great boxer but a great man who transformed himself from one of the most hated boxers to one of the most beloved. He is an inspiration to people who want to change their life for the better. Rest in peace George Foreman

There was a moment in time when George Foreman was the most feared fighter in boxing…and for good reason.

The way he transformed himself after losing to Ali is truly inspiring…and his winning back the World Heavyweight Title at age 45 is arguably the most remarkable achievements in all of sport.

I lived on the small one and also the bigger one when my grandmother didn’t want it anymore. Then I became vegetarian so I had no use. I left it at my old rooming house for the new immigrants. I hope it’s still working and making quick meals for people.
