If Trump had never said one word about HCQ, none of this would be happening, and you can take that to the bank. Probably should do so before the dollar tanks.
You're right.
If he had never promoted it as a miracle cure, it would be used cautiously as front line where it has some mild benefit. No one would be touting stupid conspiracy theories about it, there wouldn't have been runs on the supply putting people who use it for treatment for other drugs in danger. The research community wouldn't be wasting time on trying to verify outlandish claims and moved on to more promising drugs while HCQ was used quietly in the background to give a marginal benefit in cases where COVID was caught early.

But, instead, because he wanted a miracle cure to make it not his problem, Trump turned it into a fucking culture war issue.
It's kind of fucking tragic, actually.

The executive order he took until election year to sign?
The one that basically does nothing other than say "yeah, someone should fix that"? (Seriously, look at the orders - there is basically nothing there that is going to have any effect, but he got to announce it as if he did something since people have noticed he fucked off about it for 3 years.)

After immediately abandoning any pretense of controlling drug prices and just hiring pharma personnel?

What would make you think Trump cares about this? Unless it is a drug he is taking, why would he? (And, of course, if he can get his beak wet on some deals, he will take the money.)

You're rarely this naive, Wyatt. What makes you think Trump gives a shit about this other than as a photo op?
The important point is controlling drug prices has to be a legislative initiative. U.S. Presidents rarely drive legislation particularly when his party leadership has no interest. You also have the example that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi did nothing with the issue 2009-2011.

We have had this discussion before on MERB. Democrats have to paint Trump as an ideologue or a party loyalist. I think he is neither. On the specific matter of drug prices, I think he sincerely wants to lower them for the cynical view that it's popular. Egads! The President wants to be popular. The horror!!!

Association of American Physicians and Surgeons Sues the FDA to End Its Arbitrary Restrictions on Hydroxychloroquine

July 30, 2020 Update: AAPS files Motion to Expedite – https://aapsonline.org/judicial/aaps-v-fda-hcq-7-30-2020.pdf
Not exactly a well known association. They advise docs how to opt of our Medicare and oppose medical board certifications. So, no, not a credible source for me. Oh, and they just cancelled their annual conference in Texas.

Is it normal for the FBI to attempt to bring down a sitting President by nefarious and illegal means?
Biut how can that be? Bill Barr certainly protects Trumpy....and if you bothered to actually read and research the FBI did nothing of the sort. But, hey, it makes a a nice fake sound bite for the lemmings to follow.

Most of these studies have been rigged for HCQ to fail because it's not combined with zinc. This combination is necessary for it to work, according to experienced doctors. Strangely enough, this combination is avoided by the so -called studies.

In the USA 99.98% of the scientists believe the multiple large scale studies, as well as the randomized ones that have proved Hydroxychloroquine does not have any efficacy in early stages of the coronavirus who have mild cases, nor does it have any better effects than placebo in COVID-19 hospitalized patients.

But you feel free to believe in the 0.02% of doctors who are putting their personal benefits or political beliefs ahead of the proven scientific data.

There isn't one study where zinc was used in combination. It seems big pharma doesn't want this combination investigated so they can sell you more expensive drugs. The Henry Ford study was favorable to HCQ but was criticized for not being randomized.

The only other drug being talked about is Resim... whatever drug, but that drug has failed trials, so big pharma wants to sell you a more expensive drug which is Resim.. but Bigger Pharma wants an even more expensive drug?

Remdesivir, approximately $3000 a pop, from what I understand.

Hydroxychloroquine is a poor coronavirus treatment but a perfect parable for our times

Studies after studies have actually debunked the claim that hydroxychloroquine works. Cannot understand this thread still keeps spreading this misinformation!!

I was thinking about drinking tonic water but t no longer has (if any) quinine in it. Real tonic water with quinine was banned years ago.
It comes from tree bark (Jesuit's Bark), so just find the right tree, take some bark and use it to stir your tonic water...

A very safe drug that the manufacturer warns has serious side effects and admits that has no evidence to claim that it works against COVID19.
The manufacturer. The manufacturer says this. The manufacturer that would make BILLIONS if there was even a shred of truth to the claims says this.

But trump and alex jones claim it's a cure, so let's all dose up.
:der:
Didn't the military find that a serious side effect was psychosis, sometimes severe and not rare at all?
