Going to Cancun next week - any advice?

Hey Yall.

Im heading down to cancun next week with a bunch of my friends. We're celebrating a buddy's 30th birthday down there.

We're staying at the RIU in Cancun.

Are there any tips you guys can offer me for a first-timer?

How much money to bring down?

Where are the best clubs, bars, strip clubs, incalls, shopping?

We also would like to get in a round or two of golf. Let me know if there are any other worthwhile excursions.

Which RIU? There's three in the Cancun area. Carlos and Charlies is ok so is Senor Frogs -it's down the road from the resort next to Hard rock(Carlos and Charlies). Coco bongo is a must see. The riuns in Tulum are free on Sundays if you feel like renting a car and driving and hour and a half.

DO not bother with the strip clubs - like Black Jacks at Plaza 29.....shop at Wal Mart for souveniers -its the same shit as anywhere but cheaper and less chances of you getting ripped off. If you want to buy shit in a mall -go to FLamingos , LaIsla is way overpriced and full of American stores, plaza Kulkukan is even worse than La Isla for shopping.

DId you say incalls? You're kidding right? No. Hell no. Stick with the drunken tourists - if you have ANY game you can get laid in Cancun.

Golf - hmmmmm....maybe at the Hilton down the south end of the strip but the green fees are kinda stupid.

Any questions - just ask. FYI - most people down there drink Dos Equis for beer, not Corona. Have fun

If you feel compelled to drink tequila -order the Reposado not the regular swill they serve. And pissing in public is illegal, there is no gambling anywhere in the city and the bull fights are on Wednesday afternoons around 3.

More than enough.

Food, booze and smokes are very cheap down there.

Just to have an idea, a ride on Mexico City's subway is 30 cents. I repeat, 30 cents (us dollars).

I found this place in Cancun a couple years ago. I was very drunk, very late one night out with some friends leaving a club and this Mexican guy takes us to this strip club. It was an underground place with rooms in the back, more of a whore house. No sign out front this Mexican knocks on the door and this guy opens a peep door about 6" big you pay a $10 cover. Kind of scary place in hind sight but lots of hot girls but expensive $100 US BJ.

ive been to cancun many times before i took the public bus to the ruins of tulum for 10 dollars there and back its like one of those cushy tourists buses. i really enjoyed going to senior frogs as a night club.

i stayed at the riu caribe and it was an excellent resort with great food and endless liquor.

its a tourist town so the police are out in full force i never felt unsafe there, infact theres only been 5 deaths in the last 4 years there so technically its safer then toronto

1k is more than enough. I phone -no problem, all the outlets in the hotels run off 110v. Gun club -yes but you won't get in. It's not open to the public and it's not anywhere near the strip.

Bring CDN dollars - no sense losing money exchanging cdn-us-pesos. They're close to par right now. Check the rates at the front desk, and across the street. Plaza Caracol is across the street form the RIU Las Americas. You can go to the little money exchange booths and they usually give a very good rate.

Riu caribe used to be the old Gran Caribe Real in fornt of the big flag - that's another Riu but there's nothing around it anymore since they moved Carlos and Charlies close to downtown

Best club there (night club) I found was coco bongo!! Lots of gals looking to party , dancing on the bar with teenie skirts and sundresses and the club puts on a show with some cirque de solie type acrobats and celebrity impersonators (J-Lo, michael jackson and others).

Buy the all you can drink wrist band and you'll be all good (I believe it's 30-40 US).

it's up to $45USD now for Coco Bongo plus the tip. My suggestion is -know your waiter, tip half and half and let him know up front. He gets half the tip at the beginning and half at the end. That way you get taken care of all night.

I like Bulldog, the City is ok if you like techno, Slices is a lot of fun because it's open to the street. Senor Forgs is ok, Pat Obrians and Champions at Marriot for sports bars, Carlos and Charlies for the over 30 crowd.

Restaurants - Lorenzillos for seafood and La Distelleria and the Argentinian Steak House for steaks.

You can play James Bond with the little speedboats at the Jungle tour, go to Xcaret to see cool animals and shit or Akumal (the turle place).

Isla Mujeres is a worthwhile day trip - let me say, oodles of topless European supermodel types at the beach.

The bar you're thinking of big dogie is LaBoom. Past the big flag over the bridge near the ferries that take you to Isla Mujeres on the left side. I know the place well. It closed just befor the last big hurricane. It was too far from the strip mostly but it was a fun place.
