The scene changes from week to week so read up on the threads above and keep an eye on them until you leave in Feb.
Essentially, the scene is a bit rough and tumble going to hooker bars, hanging out, drinking beer and figuring out which chica you want to go with.
It can be fun, but is not for the faint of heart.
Dominican women are hustlers extraordiniaire and respect a "macho" man with balls, so if you show weakness they will try you on for size for stupid prices, upsell when you have your pants down etc etc. Not saying you should be an asshole but don't be a pussy. As Russel Peter's dad would say "Be a Man!"
Also, know that you can buy generic Viagra at the supermarket for about the cost of aspirin. Rest assured that the pills you buy at a major supermarket are not fakes, just generic drugs. Do NOT buy Viagra from any street peddlars/hustlers.
As I understand Canada Customs laws you can import up to a 3 month supply of personal use medication (no narcotics/restricted sleeping pills, etc) medication back with you for personal use.
So, you can bring back up to 90 tablets of 100mg. You can break thin into 1/4's and you have almost 400 doses!
Keep your receipt and include the cost of it in your declaration coming back so you can't be accused of smuggling.

Were we stayed you had to cross the road to the beach. There was a path through the trees/bush to get there.
The pimps had it lined with women on offer. $2-5 for a BJ. Bring your own rubber, that's extra.
The one little fucker, about 13, was pimping his sister.
He wouldn't take no for an answer until I threatened to kick his ass.
That brought in his bigger friends. I'm lucky to have walked away. Cost me a cheap Timex, about $50 spending money and my Ray Ban sunglasses. The cops didn't give a shit.

I don't visit foreign countries with an hobbying aspirations where one could:
1. End up in the back of an ambulance
2. End up in some stinking jail, accused of being a Rapist, pedophile, or drug trafficker. For sure Canada would be very unlikely to come to the rescue. I simple cherish my health and value my freedom too much

Never been to sosua but went scuba diving in Boca Chica. Never felt unsafe but you do need to have some common sense. Do some research and you should have fun.

I went to Punta Cana in DR 3 years ago and stayed at the RIU. The only hotel there that is actually on the beach. I didn't have the worst time but I probably wouldn't go back, too many beautiful places in the world.
Sosua has a real dirty 3rd world country feel to it. The girls are dirty, there used to be a gogo bar named passions which wasn't bad but it closed. There is some discos there full of hookers, from what i recall the girls didn't shower before or after the deed and language was an issue. I would go to pataya if you have the time, you can get returns for 1000$ if you book now, the difference is 4 days on a plane instead of 4 hours.
I used to do 10 day trips there, 10 days of fun and 2 long flights.
You could try this place in sosua, has girls there and I believe they are tested regularly.
