Okay folks - somebody recommend me a good chinese restaurant/chain that delivers to Downtown/West End.

Oh, and it can't be Ho Lee Chow. I can't order from there anymore.

For reasons that I can't discuss right now.

No such thing as good Chinese delivery.

Mandarin in Etobicoke is good, other than a few places in China Town.

MANDARIN?

YUCK!

My $0.02
Mandarin is fine by me.

I live around high park, and I have tried a few local chinese places, and trust me when I say there is NOTHING around here that is decent.

Usually if I am in an asian mood I head over to Green Mango on Bloor just east of Runnymede, or a sushi place. Good chinese is just about IMPOSSIBLE to find in the west end short of Spadina.

Mandarin may be very western, but it's good food in general, and the place is CLEAN. You can order 20 wings from pizza pizza if you want and it will run you about 15 bucks, or you can go to Mandarin for lunch for 9.99 and eat wings till they come out of your ears. (And a lot damn better than Pizza Pizza too.)

I'm not sure if Asian Legend does take out or not but I'd HIGHLY advise any chinese food fan to go to their restaurant. It's an excellent setting usually (been to the one up north near North York, and the one in Richmond Hill, both are excellent tasting :)

It may be clean but a number of years ago I heard there was an east end Mandarin that had a cook that was adding his own "special sauce" to the food.

Not sure if it was "fresh squeezed" in the kitchen or if he "whipped it up" at home. (Sorry, couldn't help myself)

Wow, three months ago and you just found my comment. :D

I'm usually very sceptical so I'm not one to fall for urban legends. The story was related to me by someone who had read it in the paper. I checked my usual urban legend search engine (http://snopes.com) and I found nothing that came (pardon the pun) close.

Many urban legends tend to be non-specific and this one was specific to a certain Mandarin restaurant in the east end so it had a ring of truth to it

Now it's possible the story was exaggerated and the "special sauce" was something a little less personal but having worked in the food service industry as a teenager it was not out of the realm of possibility.
