Went to our youngest daughter's grade 8 grad last night. I can't believe I have two girls in highschool now.
She looked so good all dressed up. And with those high heels she stood a good 5'10", blond haired, blue eyed amazon girl.
It was a great night and I was very proud of her when she went up to accept her medal for graduating with honours. It seems to be a common thing with my girls. Always doing their best at what they do.
As I was watching the ceremonies, and saw the other students getting awards in different catagories, I realized something. A lot of these kids were the one's my daughter are friends with. They were getting awards for track, math, science, art, community service. It showed me that we taught her enough that she was able to make a good choice of the people that she hangs with.
Not only that but, how positive their peer pressure was. One of the girls in her gang of friends, won the most improved student award. This girl is a good kid but school isn't her thing. With the help and positive pressure from her friends, she was able to improve her marks tremendously. Enough so, that she too made the honour roll.
A great bunch of kids who, I think, are ready for the pressure of high school academics.
I'm proud of not only my daughter but, of her friends for the dedication to schooling that they showed, as well as having fun and being kids.
Now they're on to their next phase in life, and I'm off now to polish my over/under double barreled shot gun....again.
