Man, I didn't even know he was sick.

Lafleur was one of the greatest players ever. As a kid, I was always a Canadiens fan. And Lafleur was the kind of player who every time he touched the puck your heart beat a little faster because the odds were better than not that he was going to make something happen. He was like a sorcerer on skates.

Guy Lafleur, hero to legions of kids, loved by French Canadians, loved by English Canadians. I don't think there's been a player like him since.

Players like Lafleur create sports fans. With their skill, their style, their charisma and their competitiveness. Guy became an icon to many. And its always a sad day when these icons exit the building permanently. RIP.

I don't recall him ever being political or controversial during his playing career. Later when his son got into trouble Lafleur did also, but that was just a Father trying to help his son.

There was that time when he crashed his car.

"After a night of downtown dining and drinking with then-teammate Robert Picard, Lafleur fell asleep behind the wheel of his Cadillac on his way home in the early morning of March 25, 1981. The car plunged off the highway and into a metal post that shattered the windshield and sliced part of Lafleur’s right ear."

As a Habs fan , one of the greatest .

Pure class .
As a Red Wings fan, one of the greatest. He and Bobby Orr were the most exciting players I ever saw. You always paid attention when he had the puck.
