I got $450 ticket for stopping at a handicap lot for less than 5 min as I ran into a convinient store to pickup some food. the cop was still there nice with me but would not take away the ticket. He said i should go to the trial and explain.

Okay, this was last October. I still have not heard from anyone or received the Notice of Trial letter. Did they simply lose my ticket?

Ticket fines can double and triple if you ignore them. Did you go to the courthouse and request a trial within 10 days of receipt? If not you will be found guilty and then you are screwed.

yeah I did. I got a stamp from the courthouse, and was told to wait for the "Notice of Trial" in the mail. never received...

I thought of that. but if did I'd helping them find it if they really lost it in the first place. Even if they find it now, I could defend it with violation of charter rights to speedy trial. no? this is rediculous if one has to wait almost a year or more for a trial.

Even tho you dropped it off and got the stamp you are still responsible to follow up to make sure you are notified of the date. If the notice is lost in the mail and you miss the court date you it is your fault

They should have called you by now. Their oversight wont save you from judgement being made against you in your absence. Call them before they render judgement.

I had a similar experience - I live on a street with only on-street parking & late last winter a designated handicapped loading zone sign went up with no notice to anyone living on the street. About a month later, I parked there & got zinged with the same $450 ticket. I chose the "I wanna day in court" option and it took about 3 months before I got a letter with the court date.

I had done some research in the interim (i.e. finding when the sign was installed) and didn't figure the judge would buy my "but I didn't notice the sign" argument, so I plead guilty. He imposed a $100 fine. There were three other cases before me involving either handicapped parking or loading zones & we all got the same deep deep discount. I was so happy that I actually apologized to the ticket dude for making him show up in court that day.

I'm still waiting to receive notice on two other regular $30 parking tickets that I opted to appeal more than two years ago - I suspect that they have simply gotten lost in the system and I'm happy to let them.

One thing for sure, if I catch a handicapped guy using one of my normal spots, he's gonna get it.

I was going to make my own comment, but you "hit the nail on the head". Maybe he needs a hammer to the head, it was October, not even the middle of winter (not that winter's an excuse either).

I agree with the Terbies that say you got what you deserve. Do not park in a Handicap spot in the future.

I do not find LE even cares in my area of Scarborough about parking in a Handicap spot. I always see lazy people with no Handicap permit parking in the spots and never once have I witnessed one of them getting a ticket.

I have a different take on handicap parking. I've seen apparently able bodied men with handicapped parking permits pull up and park in a no parking zone. They jump out and walk away with a spring in their step to do their shopping. If I ever see a parking ticket guy, I'd love to blow the whistle on a guy like that.

Just me but...

If I am guilty of an offense, I take the punishment. If I thought I was innocent I'd fight it, but in this case, you admitted guilt. Pay up and consider it a 'life lesson'.

I have seen the same thing.

I am amazed that that the GYM the whole first row about 10 spots is reserved for handicap parking and is usually empty.

I once saw a guy with a handicap sticker get out a walk with a limp. I have as much trouble as he does walking on many days due a knee problem, but I don't think the world owes me any thing.

I didn't see the frakking sign ok!! it was parallel to the street, hanging really high and behind a tree! not the big ones marked on the ground. Also all the other spots were taken, I was just running in and out in 2 minutes, and stupid popo was ambushing me.

Ok, if you did not see the sign, then it was unintentional and not done in malice. Unfortunately you are still guilty though.
