Should Canada be harboring American deserters and giving them asylum. My view in this is they shouldnt and should return them to the U.S. immediately.now.
No problem with this Canadian.
BTW, the whole Iraq situation. I don't think it's another Vietnam because,
1) No superpower or regional power interference in terms of resupplying Ammos or materials like those in former North Vietnam. The Soviet Union is dead and Russia is generally on
friendly terms with the states. Iraq is NOT at China's backyard. The Iraqis are surrounded and fighting the American mostly alone, with tokens fanatics coming to Iraq to "settle" whatever scores with the Americans.
2) Iraq casualties are relatively "meagre" compared to Vietnam. The rough estimates would be less than 20000 and the infrastructures are relatively intact, still workable. In Vietnam during the war, more than 1000000 Vietnamese died and the Americans B52 bombed the hell all over North Vietnam. The Americans are "scared" to repeat the rolling thunders in Iraq, fear of Muslims outrage.
3) Vietnam war was more a containment than preemption. Plus Vietnam has nothing US was sought after (must-have items). Iraq has tonnes of oil reserves for the Americans SUVs and "feeding" the American industries to maintain the dominance for decades to come. The Americans would not retreat that easily, unless the Americans suddenly stopped consuming so much oil on SUVs or what not.
Publicly, the Iraq war is the war of liberation or war on terror. Privately, it's a war to capture the SOB and gun down the SOB's sons and grandsons, the SOB who dared to kill dubya's biological father decades ago.
Or you can say it's "hostile takeover" of Iraqi's oil for the Americans and their "collison of the willing".
The war is actually look like the 1982 War in Lebanon, when Ariel Sharon invaded Lebanon to kick Yasser Arafat out of Lebanon for good.
