Anyone have any info or recommendations on the Harman Kardon AVR110 or other HK receivers?

It all depends what you are looking to do with the HK receiver. I have the AVR 7200 with 2 PA4000 to channel 9 sets of speakers. I use the AVR 7200 set to 5.1 and use the back 2 to power an add'l set.

So it all depends on the application. Hope this helps.

Ya dump it. HK are nothing more than overpriced junk. Do a search Bandit and you'll see like i did that there failure rate does not warrant there cost. The amount that are returned under warrantee is something like 20%. --- Kev

For home theatre I'd recommend the Panasonic SAHE100. A Consumer Reports Best Buy recommendation. Rated as high as an Onkyo unit costing more than twice the price. The only difference between this unit and high price models seems to be the number of inputs and outputs.

It can decode Dolby Digital EX, DTS and DTS-ES. Supports 6.1 surround sound. You can see the specs here: http://www.panasonic.ca/english/audiovideo/audio/hometheatre/sahe100.asp

MSLP is $599.95. I picked mine up at a local dealer for $395+tax.

I have a 5.1 setup and am very pleased with the unit.

I like this site: http://www.audioreview.com/reviewscrx.aspx

I've used a Harmon Kardon receiver a few years back when I first got into 5.1. It's not bad, but it is simple consumer-grade stuff. Meaning you get what you pay for. Sonically I liked it better than Yamaha, Denon etc but YMMV. Unlike Kev I never had any problems with my unit so I guess I was in the 80%.

Sorry all...

I screwed up in this post. I was thinking of Denon, not Harmon Kardon. Denon is a pile of crap. According to everyone i spoke to. --- Kev

I think Denon is perhaps the best manufacturer of mid-grade consumer gear. As for HK, Logic 7 is a huge advantage (less so with DPL IIx). One receiver with a ton of discussion is the Panasonic 45 with digital amps.

Not a fan of audioreview either.. basically a bunch of people trying to substantiate their purchasing decisions..

Look into brand names like Rotel, NAD, Adcom, Arcam etc. The lower priced "hi end" stuff is good value and you actually get what you pay for.

The names I listed are from my experience a few years back. Are there any new companies that make good equipment value wise or some of the higher end makes delving into a line of lower priced components.

Maybe a Krell or Mark Levinson champagne in a beer budget line :O .... dreaming ...

Don't forget Bryston poolie - made in Canada solution!

I'm using a Bryston SP1 processor right now which I quite like. I've got it hooked up to a Proceed AMP5 which I found superior to the Bryston 9B though.

Still dreaming of being able to upgrade the fronts to Levinson 33H ...

Incidentally, if you're patient you can put together a mid-range Levinson setup via eBay for a fraction of the original cost.
