Harper should resign

From today's theglobeandmail.

The many scenarios playing out in Ottawa – the ascent of an opposition coalition, the proroguing of the House of Commons, the launch of yet another election – amount to a continued power struggle between Stephen Harper and Stéphane Dion. Given what Canadians have seen of both men, the prospect of either one in the office of prime minister is not appealing.

The best potential resolutions of the political meltdown are ones that neither the Conservatives nor the Liberals seem to be considering. Were the Conservatives to replace Mr. Harper with a less divisive figure, they might regain Parliament's – and Canadians' – trust. By accelerating their replacement of Mr. Dion, the Liberals could put in place someone with the moral authority to steer a coalition. Particularly if Mr. Harper succeeds in proroguing Parliament until January, the country would be best served if one or both parties used the time to revisit their leadership.

With the current situation on the Hill, I get the true meaning of Lord Acton's famous expression "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

These party leaders do not have the country interest in mind, but their self-interest.

Harper - to elect a majority government

Dion - not remember as another Edward Blake (The only Liberal leader who never became prime minister)

Layton - blind ambitions to become Prime Minister.

Can we find our own Obama in Canada?

we are a moderate society and we tend to elect minority governments, of interest is that only one minority government in history has been removed based on confidence or a looming coalition take-over. This should tell you something, it's not just a common place thing that Canadians should accept. We elect MP's, If MP's would do their jobs and actually represent the people and not the party we would not be in the mess we are, this is the have your cake and eat it too issue where MP's run and are elected as individuals but their alegience it to the party politics and not the people they represent, it is a huge conflict of interest that is built into out political process.

I am not confusing our system with the US. I know how our government works. The house loosing confidence in a seven week old government is political move that has no basis in confidence. When I speak about mandates to elected parties I am refering to the platform the parties ran on in the last election. For example the canadian people disagreed with Dion as a leader and with him the mandate of the green shift. So now with a coalition government Dion has the power to act on his green mandate without the support of the population. If the liberals/NDP/BLOC ran the last election with the platform of eventually forming a majority government in the form of a coalition and they achieved enough seats to govern between the three parties, then they would have the backing of the canadian people.

I have said it a few times already, If the LP/NDP/BQ want to legitimize their intentions and truly have the best interest of the Canadian people at heart they will call an election and let US decide!

I am also sick of hearing how Canadians don't want another election. Everyone I have talked to agrees that this big a shift in Ottawa it should be backed by the people.

When you use my signature to describe this situation, I hate to be the one to inform you, there is only one looser as a rusult, and it is not any of the politial parties, it is the people of this nation
