am pretty sure it is bogus, but..
this is the email address it came from

Alisa Rey <rtjaleheh@outlook.com>

I recieved this one today on my work pc. scary shit

I am well aware that***** is one of your passwords. Let us get directly to the point of this email.

No person has paid me in order to investigate you. You do not know me and you're probably thinking why you are receiving this message?

In fact, I actually placed a malware on the X vids (porno) website and there's more, you visited this website to experience fun (you know what I mean). When you were watching videos, your internet browser began functioning as a RDP having a key logger which provided me accessibility to your display screen as well as web cam. Right after that, my software gathered every one of your contacts from your Messenger, social networks, as well as e-mail . After that I made a video. 1st part displays the video you were watching (you have a nice taste : )), and second part displays the recording of your webcam, and its u.

You've got two alternatives. Why don't we look at the possibilities in aspects -

1st choice is to ignore this message. In this case, I most certainly will send out your actual recorded material to all your your personal contacts. Think about the embarrassment you will get. In addition if you are in an intimate relationship, how it will certainly affect you?

2nd choice would be to compensate me $7000. We will call it a donation. As a result, I will right away eliminate your video footage. You can keep going your daily routine like this never happened and you will never hear back again from me.

You will make the payment via Bitcoin (if you don't know this, search

Huh?

Unless the person is a total idiot, how exactly would they have "video" of you watching porn
Break into your home and plant spy cams???

This is a laughable attempt at a scam (at least with ransomware I can understand why people might pay to get files back)

Interesting site. Checked my old email plus all three of my current. My old email was compromised in 2016, and one of my current ones in late 2017. I regularly update my passwords, so all my current ones are fine, but I just went back and changed the password on my old account just in case.
It says it's been compromised but it seems it isn't the email that was nailed but logins to other sites that were so they have my email and my password for the other sites but the email's password wasn't hacked.

I don't use the same email for my email and other sites. I do use the same password for many non vital sites [not email, facebook, CRA, banks]

If someone hacks my account on some forum or gaming site, meh who cares. I don't. {Actually merb and terb have two unique passwords, not sure why I did that]

I just couldn't be bothered to come up with and remember or even write down a password for every bloody rinky dink forum or game site I am on.

walleye,
almost word for word for the one I got.
the reason it went to your work email is because the work email address and a related password was part of a data breach.
go to the government of Canada website on internet fraud and go to the powned website.

No they simply turn on your webcam
Except system properties do not allow this
I know 20 years ago this was a fear but basic system security is not in dark ages anymore
(heck nearly EVERY PC I have ever seen has an LED light beside cam even, so even if it was possible (it is not) it would be VERY obvious to the person lol)

And this is assuming you are even on a laptop and not a desktop PC
Or a cell phone

My understanding is that the scam was once more elaborate. A web cam girl would agree to play with herself in a private chat room and let the guy watch. The guy would jerk off. The scammers would control his computer cam and video him. Then they would threaten to show his wife and boss.

The threat there was that the guy's wife would know he was "cheating" on her and he would pay up to save his marriage.

Even if the sextortion emails I got were credible, why would I give a shit? Some asshole wants to send videos of my face contorting and breathing while I jerk off and send them to friends, relatives and business associates? What are they going to do? Delete the video, that's what. Who wants to see old oagre's hairy face breathing heavy and moaning?? It's silly.

Never hurts to have a webcam cover. $5.00 well spent. Any time someone says something is impossible I always figure that someone will find a way to make it possible.

Mostly my mail accounts auto filter most junk mail spam scam mail to junk mail folders. Once in a while I looke through junk folders looking for legit mail. So many hundreds of scams.
Once in a while some scam mail gets through.
Recent ones look like they come from legit companies, Walmart, Costco, Amazon. All are scams, confirm identity, accept terms. And the point is they want access to your accounts and passwords.
I set myself up to get targeted by signing up for porn and dating sites. When you quit they give away your email. And he more I unsubscribe the more junk email I get.
Now somehow I have cam girls scheduling appointments and they are added to calander without me knowing.
Anybody know how to block that?

Yes, those are the scary ones. The Royal Bank emails me and tells me my card is compromised. I drop by the branch. It's a phishing scam email. Apple tells me someone has ordered $300 worth of games on my account. I call visa and no charges were ever put through. They just want me to give up my pwds.

That's you. Not everyone looks as bad as you do and most have a life worth protecting.

Seriously, some creep sent you a video of your brother-in-law or uncle jerking off, just his face? You'd simply delete it, I hope.

you really are an oagre with no brains. It's also sent to your mother. You've been cut off from her will for having no brains and not covering your web cam.
