Troops: You keep quoting that amateur-ish looking site virusmyth.net. Here's another site you might want to look at: www.moonmovie.com <--says the Apollo missions were a govenment conspiracy, and that they never got to the Moon

You can find supporting evidence anywhere on the internet for just about any silly theory.

Now, if you can present statistics from a reputable site, I'll bow to your point-of-view.

Here's my contribution:

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/facts/transmission.htm
Centre for Disease Control - Atlanta
HIV is spread by sexual contact with an infected person, by sharing needles and/or syringes (primarily for drug injection) with someone who is infected, or, less commonly (and now very rarely in countries where blood is screened for HIV antibodies), through transfusions of infected blood or blood clotting factors. Babies born to HIV-infected women may become infected before or during birth or through breast-feeding after birth.
http://216.239.39.104/cobrand_univ?...1/part1_d.pdf+HIV+transmission&hl=en&ie=UTF-8[/url]
World Health Organization
The epidemiological dynamics of HIV infection are different from other infectious disease agents, includingother sexually transmitted infections (STI), because the risk of HIV transmission via sexual intercourse is verylow compared to most other STI. In the absence of facilitating factors, the transmission of HIV via a singleepisode of anal or vaginal intercourse is very low. Several epidemiological studies indicate that, in theabsence of facilitating factors, the efficiency of vaginal intercourse for HIV transmission is about 1 or less per1000 sex exposures 1,2. The risk of HIV transmission via anal intercourse is generally believed to be higherthan via vaginal intercourse, but the risk of HIV transmission via anal intercourse is still believed to be low when compared with other STI.
AND one to rebut your silly link...

The fact is that if you have unprotected sex with an infected female, you may not get the disease. I could also stick a gun against my head, shoot myself, and I may not die.

But why risk it?

what is in dispute here is the ease (or lack thereof) of a hetrosexual male contracting the virus via unprotected vaginal intercourse with a known hiv+ girl... the odds of this are approx. 1 in 8000 given 'normal exposure'... it could be as high as a 1 in 3000 chance if the girl is bleeding or something along those risky lines but it is a very difficult virus to transmit, and most especially difficult to transmit from girl to guy
Troops: You haven't given me any proof of your statement. I need a link to a reputable site containing the information you are claiming to be correct.

1 in 8000 is not a "virtual impossibility" as you claim. Back that up with some figures and I'll gladly say you're right. Until then, in my mind you're dead wrong.

Obviously you don't know me too well then, pro1. :D

Actually, my beef is not with you, Pro1. I actually believe your stats, etc. My beef is with this statement:
Troops said:
Just my opinion..............virtually impossible for a man to catch HIV from a woman.
A 1 in 8000 chance, no let's even go higher.... a 1 in 800000 chance of contracting HIV from a woman is NOT a "virtual impossibility".

And Troops has not produced a shred of evidence to back up his claim. Except his repetative statement of doing "research".

Pulling statements out of your butt is not research. If he proves it, I'll back down. Until then, nope.

Here's another one:

There has never been a documented case of a MAN contracting HIV from a woman.
Cite, Troops?

How about this:
At plasma viral loads exceeding 100,000 copies/mL, HIV-1-infected women are more than three times as likely to transmit the virus to their partner than are men with the same viral load, according to results of a prospective cohort study of heterosexual couples from Zambia.

That's the site you gave me, right pro1?

Okay, I'll back-peddle a bit here.

I guess the problem I have is with Troops's "virtual impossibility" statement. Admittedly, the word "virtual" is the vague part. But logically, a "virtual impossibility" would be a "minute possibility", which in my books is not worth the risk.

Happy?

I'm sorry but I know men who are completely heterosexual who have ended up with AIDS... I went to school with them... I knew them and their sexual history... 3 of them all together all slept witht he same girl... Who was later figured to have had it.

Why take the risk on a maybe? Just pointing this out to try and keep people acting in a more intelligent manner.
You went to College with these guys or elementary school? Makes me surprised that they are lying around dying considering the number of drugs increasing the life expectancy of those living with AIDS. How odd. I also think such a scenario would have hits papers as a public message. My guess is drugs or gay sex, if indeed these guys did get aids. There's too much rumour mongering on the topic.

I agree, bbking. When someone says that there is a "1 in 8000" chance of something, that doesn't mean that you are safe for 7999 times.

The first time could be the one.

It's a combination of ignorance and denial that drives these frightening arguments that it's "not gonna happen to me"...

I totally agree.

Whoever said ignorance is bliss was not refering to being ignorant about the real risks of contracting HIV.
Any man who would have unprotected sex with a HIV positive woman, because he believes the chances of contracting the virus are next to impossible, is in real denial and very stupid, and on a suicide mission. To the guys who think it is almost impossible to contract HIV from having sex with a woman.....If you met a very attractive women with HIV would you really have sex with her without a condom or even with a condom?

BTW-Magic Johnson was diagnosed with HIV when his wife was just a few months pregnant, so obviously they had unprotected sex while he was infected with the virus. Luckily her and the new baby were not found to be HIV positive. Some people may say that that is 'evidence' that contracting HIV is not easy. I just think her and her baby are just damn lucky.

This low risk-almost no risk debate, reminds me of a girlfriend, when I was in university, who calls me in SHOCK and disbelief , and in denial, that she got pregnant(she is lucky she did not get a disease) . I ask her if she used a condom and she said 'no' but she said he 'pulled out' and that they only had sex one time, and 'how can this happen to me'? Easily because....
IT ONLY TAKES ONE TIME!

Sure life is full of RISKS but is not most of life about effective risk management?????

The magic johnson story is one that no one will ever know for sure how he got it. On the same token a good number of men in Los Angeles swing both ways......it seems to be the norm there. Shemales are very popular among the so -called straight men in LA. Celebrity are known to frequent their services in LA at an alarming rate. Eddie murphy is a good example when he got busted picking up a shemale escort. If magic says he got it from a female............i'll bet he got it from a shemale instead but of course will not admit to that. Even the male porn stars that have contracted hiv have been known to frequent shemales. It seems to be the rage in the industry. Example...........John Stagliano the owner of Evil Angel Video who films as well as perform in some of his vids has admitted that he got his hiv infection from a shemale in brazil. Numerous male porn stars of camera do fuck shemales.

I'm sure DenWa can verify some of my info regarding the lifestyles that some celebrities lead and what its like in Los Angeles.

I can't stress enough how important it is to wrap yourself up. This thread is on hiv so by no means am i saying its safe to go bareback. All i'm saying is that if i did go bareback, i'd be MORE concerned about other STD's than HIV because statistically other std's are far easier to catch than HIV. So for a man to catch hiv from a woman is almost impossible, but a very good chance you'll catch something else from a female much easily.

If you drive to your girlfiend's place to have unprotected sex there is a greater chance you will die in a car accident than from AIDS. Of course, there is no use in taking on unnecessary risks. Thats why I use condoms and seatbelts (insert sex while driving joke here).
